Final Fantasy Tactics Advance

If anyone's played both, what's the difficulty level between the two? And if anyone's also played FFTA2, what's the difficulty compared to the predecessors? I like my strategy games mildly challenging, but not hair-ripping jaw-clenching hard.

Huh? FFTA is easy as heck.

Okay. Except for certain fights like the Mateus one in which I got totally creamed.

Finally got Bonecrusher and Doublehand mastered on my Dragoon/Gladiator. The combination is insane, mind you. He's Lv23 right now (I think), and he did 211 on a Bonecrusher to a random Lv17-or-so White Mage who was dumb enough to whack him.

Now, I just need to get a Target Bow for Marche and Tamara, and a Longbarrel for Montblanc and Messara...I can't wait. Hurrah for 90% and 100% Last Breaths & Rockseals! Big Grin

What R-Ability should I give Bensom, my Nu Mou Sage/Alchemist, anyway? He currently (still) has Turbo MP as his S-Ability.

If I remember correctly, you can choose between Normal and Hard in FFTA2. I chose Hard, and to me it still looks kinda easy. I suppose that in normal difficulty enemies attacks each other lol.

Turbo MP is a great S-Ability in FFTA, since your MP isn't limited as much as it is in FFTA2. If you wanted to switch, I'd say Half MP or MagicPow+, so you can have more MP in longer battles. For an R-Ability, I would use reflex. Since most of the better R-Abilities (Counter, Bone Crusher etc) rely on physical attack, reflex is best for preventing damage to your already frail Nu Mou. That or Return Magic would work nicely if you're in a situation with more magic attackers than physical ones.

The one thing I hate about Turbo MP is that it affects ALL spells. Not just those that actually deal damage. Spending 48 MP to cast Haste (which has a 100% hit rate anyway) is NOT pretty. MagicPow+ sounds appealing, but the problem is tha it doesn't increase hitrate like Turbo MP does. Half MP is the worst. =.=

I'm currently mastering Return Magic on Bensom. I think I'll get him to learn Reflex later on as well. The thing is, Reflex loses its usefulness later on when enemies stop using Fight so often. :/

Nothing much else to report actually. Marche's growing as a Hunter right now for WAtk without sacrificing too much Speed (which will happen if I grow him as a Fighter). Tamara and Eldena hit so freaking often with Last Breath; so much so that it isn't even funny. x.x

Montblanc's a Thief/Juggler now for the Speed growth. Aiming for Gunner/Juggler after I actually get the equipment that teaches Smile, after which I will switch to Juggler to learn it and then to Gunner.

Where do I actually get the Vitanova, anyway? Kinda wanting Dragonheart lol.

The thing is, Turbo MP is the best ability for any magic based class. So going to anything else is a step down. And the fact that spells like Haste now cost obscene amounts of MP is part of the downside to Turbo MP.

In most situations Reflex works great. It's mostly bosses that make the ability less useful, since they have their own special attacks.

And the Vitanova is a random reward for a quest. So keep questing and you'll get it soon enough! Tongue

Oh God. The Vitanova's in Set 5. =.=

On another note, I just got a Fey Bow from Travel Aid. Tamara's mastered Shadowbind from it, and Marche's learning Aim: Vitals. The Aim: Vitals description says it inflicts a random status ailment, so I decided to try it out on a Soldier in Clan Dip.

Marche: *Uses Aim: Vitals* [SWEET SPOT!]
Soldier: *HP falls to 1*

I was totally shocked. I never knew it could do THAT! >.>

Been a while. Seems like my thread is dead. Sad

I now have the Cinquedea, Longbarrel, Vitanova...etc.

I just cleared "The Redwings", and what the hell. I totally wiped the floor with them, and got 3 shiny new Paladin A-Abilities for Marche (Nurse, Saint Cross, Holy Blade) from Dark Knight Grissom! :p

I'm glad I decided to bring Eldena along; Barrier completely destroyed the Rune Knights' attacks (Fire Breath did 8 damage on Marche and 1 on Montblanc...Marche's a Hunter and Montblanc's a Thief :x). I basically disabled, then stopped Grissom and started spamming Steal: Ability on him...with the help of Montblanc's Smile, of course. XD

My team's now...

Marche
Lv29 Human
Hunter/Thief/Counter/-/Combat Combo
(Thief's there temporarily for Steal: Ability)

Montblanc
Lv30 Moogle
Thief/Juggler/Counter/Maintenance/Thief Combo
(Levelling as Thief for Speed)

Rooster
Lv27 Bangaa
Dragoon/Gladiator/Dragonheart/Weapon Atk+/-

Bensom
Lv24 Nu Mou
Sage/Alchemist/Return Magic/Turbo MP/Black Combo

Tamara
Lv29 Viera
Assassin/Archer/Block Arrows/-/Killer Combo

Messara
Lv23 Moogle
Gunner/Mog Knight/Last Haste/Shieldbearer/-

Eldena
Lv25 Viera
Assassin/Red Mage/Block Arrows/-/Killer Combo

Lini
Lv23 Moogle
Animist/Item/Last Haste/Shieldbearer/-
(Figured Animist abilities might be useful...Item's there because I was too lazy to change it. :x)

Javet
Lv19 Blue Mage
Blue Mage/Item/Damage>MP/Learning/-
(It's kinda like my policy to always recruit Expert Jobs...plus I figured a Blue Mage would be useful...)

I hope you got Goblin Punch and Dragon Force for your Blue Mage already. The monsters that give those abilities (Goblin and Thunder Drake, respectively) are only available from quests. Goblin Punch isn't THAT great, but Dragon Force can give your units a major boost.

Glad you decided to go with Blue Mage, they're my favorite class in all of Final Fantasy. Your animilist(Or whatever it's called) will help a lot in getting the abilities, but I'm sure I don't have to tell you that.

I got my Blue Mage a little late, so I can't get Goblin Punch any more...I haven't really seen any Thundrakes around though.

I just discovered a ridiculous efficient way to power level. Have the character you want to power level learn Steal: EXP, then place a really high leveled unit in front of an enemy (which you then proceed to box in...or immobilize)...I think you can guess what to do next :p I got Messara from Lv23 to 31 in under 30 minutes that way. x.x

By the way, Animists don't help in getting Blue Magic at all. It's Beastmasters that do.

I knew I said something wrong. Thundrakes are pretty rare, just keep an eye out for them when they're in a quest. Make sure you have a Beastmaster for that battle :x

I've only met one Thundrake so far...and that's Tiamat, the Falgabird of Wind.

The funniest thing happened last night when I did Scouring Time. Sure, that mission was actually hard...it was hard to steal both the Lotus Mace and Lordly Robe from Babus...I only managed to steal the Lotus Mace before Babus punched Marche and basically suicided on my Counter. It was like...

Marche: *Runs up to Babus and steals Lotus Mace*
Babus: *Punches Marche for 7 damage*
Marche: [COUNTER] *Slashes Babus for over 200 damage*

Babus got owned badly. ~.~

It's Last Breath. Typically 60/70% chance of 1hko from the back.

Better:

> Hunter: summon ultimate (forget name)
> Juggler: Smile on Hunter
> Hunter: Hunting on almost dead enemies
rinse and repeat

Stone touch.... he's probably talking about Rockseal. Which petrifies... effectively killing that person. You instantly win if the entire enemy team is petrified. It also nets you a 100% steal rate if you steal from a petrified enemy so it's a LOT more useful than last breath. Also, enemies rare use esuna on their team mates since they usually don't have it.

I haven't played FFTA in years, but I always found that ability a lot more situational. Last Breath worked on just about everything but bosses. Some monsters were immune to Rockseal, I believe, or it had a lower success rate or something.

Rockseal's successrate is the same as Last Breath. And almost everything that you can use last breath on, you can use Rockseal on. The upside to rockseal is that certain monsters absorb dark attribute attacks so last breath won't work on them. So rockseal helps there. The downside to rockseal is that it leaves the enemy as a pillar there. So no walking through it.

Both last breath and rockseal count as status inducing attacks. They have an accuracy of 70% when hitting from behind.

Btw, I just looked up the formula on gamefaqs. They both do have the same accuracy. Also last breath will instantly fully heal anything with zombie status at a 100% rate.

I've played all four and absouluetly LOVE THEM!

the PSX version , Advanced , A2 and the war of the lion.

I'd have to say story wise Advanced and TWOTL were amazing.

TWOTL was prolly the most enjoyable from start to end. with the cutscences and everything.

Advanced had a great aura to it , I sat in bed hours at a time playing it.

the PSX version was the first and I've beat it the most amount of times and as for A2 , Its great. I like the story and the gameplay never gets old.

all around I'd say PSP was my favourite.

Way too many good games keep getting released for the PSP only >>

So many good "Tales of" games and now I learn that a Tactics game is out for it ><

Freaking hell. Cross platforming on handhelds please D:

Granted... I already know that wouldn't work out too well with all the differences between the PSP and DS
