Dying? Lol. Nexon is still earning massive amounts of income and more people every day are registering and playing the game. It's only the minority(forums) that think that these "hackings" are a real problem, when you only have to ignore such insignificant stuff.

Main reasons why MMO's die? Newer programming languages, better security, better graphics. Things they pretty much cannot update unless they completely rewrite the game.
Newer programing languages don't have as much impact as you'd think, tons of stuff is still written in C. I'd also argue, that gameplay is a bigger selling point in the mmo market than graphics considering WoW success. I know I wouldn't even look at Maplestory if I could play DFO in Europe.
Also, Conciente, does acting like a devil's advocate makes you feel superior to everyone else? Because you've been doing it in every post that I've seen.
Conciente Wrote:MapleStory still has a good 2-3 years left.
I'd consider that kind of time frame "dying."
It's pretty evident in the way they're pumping out new classes like no tomorrow. The hackings or whatever drama has nothing to do with the overall decline in the popularity of MS. Not just Global.

No, I don't think it's dying.
This kind of thing pretty much happens every spring. Nexon gets complacent, hackers pineapple everything up, bam. Nexon fixes it around the anniversary, gets rich over the summer, stops paying attention in the fall, repeat x5.
I'm not even kidding...
2006 - Feb~March vac hackers
2007 - Feb~July PG hackers
2008- I was busy with school, I don't remember. Maybe they avoided a big hacking spree this year, maybe I just missed it.
2009 - Feb/March~ mass white scroll/equip duping
2010 - Jan-Feb mass account hackings...
Hello, i'm new but not really, a long time lurker here actually... very long time lurker. I've quit MS for about 7 months now... yet continued to lurk even after. I found out my account was hit in january, with traits of the hacking matching that of what happened to EoS and several others, changing my status from "quit" to actually quit.
You guys definitely handle discussions better than other MS forums, but im sure you guys are aware of that.
Guess something about madanthony's post made me register finally to post a response around here.
madanthony Wrote:SP and even SW represent a small fraction of some of Maple's oldest and most astute players. We can't represent the whole of Maple's population, but from our perspective the game has been over for a lot of us for quite some time.
So now im here to input. (Covers this to lower the "Wall of text" rating of my post.)
Basically, after playing a series of other MMOs, i've really begun to see the age in Maple Story, from the imbalance in stat usefulness and oft-times unrewarding party system to the severe lack of 120+ content in the game.
I believe Nexon never really planned for the game to last much longer, which would logically explain the lack of developing 120+ content: So many games that actually do have grind have been out in less time than MS yet have content that reaches much higher levels. I never found it unusal untill i tried other MMOs. (Maple was my first and only for a very long time) But now looking back, i now realize it may have just been a bad sign.
Numerous gacha and cash-shop expansions and lower level PQs constantly being added also point at that for me. There's even a series of classes that stop dead at 120, something that would be useless to a dedicated player, UNLESS, all content with a point really does stop at 120. Now a class that's pay to play? It's really beginning to seem like Maple's focus is just making content that grabs cash fast, without making a money flow that will last.
Which sounds like the perfect strategy to fund a Maple Story 2 project.
Personally i do hope Maple dies, and drives the player base to try new MMOs so they can learn just how broken, dated and... well bad, so many aspects of the game were and are. and i really do apologize if that makes me sound like a troll, i actually like MS a lot and love the time spent and friends made playing the game.
Its just that there's a few games that I like that could really use the money from the player base Nexon has had a chokehold on to make them even better. heh!
But really, i think if this hacking continues the way it has and hurting the dedicated playerbase and nexon continues to make such monumental errors, it's going to go the way of the dodo, and it really seems intentional, as Nexon DOES have a lot more games than they used to, and by what i hear those games are really making some good money. Perhaps there's been a shift in focus in manpower per game at nexon; the GM that got hacked didn't really seem like much of a "pro" going by impressions...
And regarding the often repeated arguement of "more players will just come"... Maple has been around for a very long time, and the # of MMO players in north america is not infinite, eventually everyone who would take interest in MS will have had their shot at it. Potential customers DO run out, and as for new generations... if their older brothers and sisters are playing something else, odds are they won't be trailblazing it to MS logically.
Here's to hoping Maple Story 2 can handle the current trends in MMO gaming. (and be more secure at that...)

and yes PB is pay to play. You cant do it without HP washing, and most likely wheels.
So you are saying by having those items you will be accepted at HT? Even if you are at the bare minimum level to HT? Yeah keep telling yourself that, maybe if you get those items soon enough you can find groups.

Completely true,
it seems though, that the hacks are getting more and more destructive to the community as of the years keep rolling on.
Nightclaw Wrote:ok. Gl getting on a HT run without...
I can definitely get to HT without having a Facestomper - just need to level up a bit (guild runs for anyone 160+), and I got my Stormcasters by buying it (70 million mesos) because uh... that's how you get good items. By buying them. Didn't have to buy mesos or anything, I just sold items I found from training.

I agree. It doesn't have to die in the next few months to be considered 'dying'.
That said, though, the hacks will get worse unless radical changes come in. And, seeing Nexon as it is, that's not gonna happen.

maybe if anyone not holding the ht cave could get in in Bera this might be true
Too many things are making this game unplayable for higher lvls but who are we kidding thinking that the high lvls are Nexon's bread and butter anyway. They're main focus is getting people in not in retaining them. This game will remain profitable for a long time to come but like someone mentioned earlier, profitably doesn't determine whether or not this game is a piece of pomegranate.
Nexon is continuing to rake in profits, true...but the game's "fun" and overall image has pretty much been trashed. I've seen many of my friends that were once completely absorbed with it, that have ultimately quit specifically because they feel Nexon's losing their grip to the point where it's just not safe to play anymore. They don't feel any sense of security anymore.
The game's completely...different than what it used to be, is what I'm saying. The image has changed.
Nexon don't look like they're running out of income any time soon across all versions anyway and as long as that continues to be the case then Maple will still exist.
Maplestory still lives to me so long as I have friends online that still play. If all of a sudden Nexon announces that they're shutting down Maple then whatever, will grab whatever means I can to contact said friends (if I don't have the means already) and be done with it. No big deal.
All this "MAPLESTORY IS DYING QUIT WHILE YOU'RE AHEAD" business is exaggerated to hell. Tone it down a little :/
The hackings aint what's killing it, not by a long shot. As been said before, the lack of care for the community is the cancer here, and KMS worthless decisions during the last two years is just making the cancer kill faster. There is a cure though, but I don't think Nexon is ready to take it yet since it would mean a huge increase in manpower and effort.
dpeterlin Wrote:maybe if anyone not holding the ht cave could get in in Bera this might be true
Well yeah, there's the minor issue of getting to HT at all, or even me wanting to kill it >_<. Like how I could have CKPQ'd with the guild over christmas, if CKPQ hadn't been glitched at the time..
Meh, If I take Scania as an example, it's lost pretty much 50-60% of it's high level population due to hackings/inactivity cause by various stupid things.
Though I don't really see any loss in new players who keep spending money on this game. So not dying from Nexon's POV, but anyone who actually wants to have fun in this game past ~lvl150 yeah it's pretty much dead.
Phoenix Wrote:Meh, If I take Scania as an example, it's lost pretty much 50-60% of it's high level population due to hackings/inactivity cause by various stupid things.
I mean I know it sucks to be high level in Scania (the land of rampant e-cock, HT drama and general childish behaviour) but really now, over half of the high level population have quit? Sounds like an exaggerated estimate, but I have no major connections so I don't know for sure.

Sorry guys, but people that spend money get much more much faster than those that don't. If you put in like 5000 dollars and buy perfect gear, (21 str 141 sparta and stuff,) you just accomplished as much in the game as a lot of people do in years. There is no excuse for this other than greed on Nexon's part. And, yes, to most of you 5000 dollars seems like a fortune, but there are some people whose parents have a 40 room house and an in-door pool. To such kids 5000 dollars is like one month's allowance. If you don't believe that, take a look at the smega whores: in Khaini, people like NikkiNevada and RebelTw come readily to mind. They charge 150 dollars in smegas and waste them spelling the alphabet forwards and backwards.
