Is Global MapleStory dying?
#1
Hackings left and right to such a degree that it's blatantly obvious that info wasn't simply given away. Nexon trying to cover its tracks concerning the recent RavenSCA incident while, at the same time, hiding the fact that more and more people are hacked every day. People quitting by the dozen for numerous reasons, which may or may not include the recent events. Duping occurring at an alarming rate.

Reminds me of MSEA's situation late last year (and even recently). But they 'recovered', sort of. How do you guys see this situation?

Maple itself is dying. MSEA's database and mass hackings with the Chinese hackers, Global being hacked like crazy, possibly database hacked, and the GM being hacked, KoreanMS with their introductions of pretty much pay-to-play limited-time classes, etc. etc. The golden days of Maple were over starting around the time Global got fourth job and the rise of private servers happened. MapleStory is going down hill already. Whether or not they'll still be around in 5 years may be another story, but they're definitely starting to lose popularity.

Maple Global isn't "dying" but it's definitely in a slump. I logged on during the 2x event on Sunday and only one member of my normally active guild was online, the alliance was dead, and even channel 1 leafre was considerably empty. Both before and after the 2x event.

I hope this keeps up, perhaps Nexon will finally learn to treat players better. Or perhaps they'll act like giant children and just shut the game down. Either way, I win because I don't have to worry about Nexon being pomegranate anymore.

Maple has always been going downhill; never uphill. Eos made a post a couple of weeks ago that described my feelings toward this game best:

Eosian Wrote:No, I see myself never playing Maple again because it's a boring sack of pomegranate with no hope of ever evolving to anything better. I quit Maple almost seven months ago and have absolutely no interest in ever going back. The only reason I didn't delete my character is because it's "done" and occupying a very nice slot on the ranks, and I didn't want to waste it. Maple itself has nothing to interest me. It's an endless grind and once you've finished that it has no challenges, it has no story, it has no real goals you can even set for yourself and every day any goal you could've made is being made easier for the next generation, making it even more pointless to have spent all that effort to get something they're just going to hand out in six months.

I don't really care about the hackings. There are better reasons to dislike Nexon.

IMO, they just need to fix security, and get rid of all the NX advantages and make the game Free to play... Not free to log on.

I mean seriously.. Gach? HAmmers? Scissors? safety charms? PETS...

Its just nuts.

It also can't help that we're all getting a little older, a little wiser, and a little more concerned with the rest of the world. SP and even SW represent a small fraction of some of Maple's oldest and most astute players. We can't represent the whole of Maple's population, but from our perspective the game has been over for a lot of us for quite some time. Nexon just keeps adding unnecessary nails into the coffin.

Each MMO has it's expiration date, without the hackings Maple would last a little bit longer but would die eventually.
Main reasons why MMO's die? Newer programming languages, better security, better graphics. Things they pretty much cannot update unless they completely rewrite the game.

Maple in this case, is taking huge hits from these leaks and hackings, MSEA indeed endured a big hit, but countered that with more and better content. GlobalMS on the other side, seems to be releasing a pile of crap each patch. As well Maple has an unstopable inflation rate, prices are extremely high and grinding barely brings in some mesos.
Maple is a dying cow being milked out, Nexon made a good profit of it I guess, but it's time for them to move on to a new game. The thing that kept Maple together was the feeling of a "different" MMO, and chatting with friends, but with the hacking and duping going on this feeling has no use. Maple becomes equal to a small web-game, when you close it you can start over again.
At least this is how I look at it.

Tl;dr: Maple is going to die, if not now within ~2 years. This is the fate for all versions eventually.

The hackings are making the game die, yeah. If they don't do something, and soon, they'll lose a lot of customers. Yeah, like if they haven't already lost many of them.

They will get what they deserve, and maybe hire experienced staff to improve security.

But yeah, I'm starting to feel that Maple will die soon. The last content they've been releasing isn't really exciting to me. They should seriously stop releasing overpowered classes and focus more on training spots and funny additions for Maple.

After playing for about.. yeah, 4 years.. well, I'm starting to get bored of Maple overall. This hacking epidemic just makes me want to quit even more.

The game is free to play, what the hell are you talk about? I haven't paid for playing this game, it's been almost 5 years now.

The lack of attention towards the community is what's killing the game.

MapleStory is NOT dying. There is no need to be so melodramatic over some people getting hacked. As far as I'm concerned, I'm the only one that knows my info. I'm not getting hacked, unless I ask for it.

How are you funding yourself?

And so many things are pay 2 play..

facestompers, SCG, onyx apples, Pink bean.....

Can you get yourself SCG, Facestompers, or onyx apples without paying?

No, you are forced to pay nexon, or buy from others that pay...

I kill stuff and loot what they drop. I can buy stuff from other people after I sell my loot. It's not that hard.

I agree completely. I think as a company it's only wise to shut down before you lose profit.

The way customer service and Nexon's lack of competence is showing for gMS, it's not going to last much longer. DFO is lasting better because no one cares about hacking other people for their stuff when the good stuff isn't even tradeable. Of course, there's always WoW to go back too if Nexon can't handle their incompetence and pulls the plug.

Do you have any of those items? If not how are you playing? Because according to you, you NEED those items to play.

I fund myself by hitting the loot button whenever something drops. And yes I BUY FROM OTHERS WHO PAY, which pretty much means I DONT PAY.

He's not playing. All he does is die. That alone backs up his claim.

yes they should remove the high nx advantage... for examplr, without nx you cant beat pink bean,no wheels...
i would make weddings' cost paid by mesos instead of nx,but like 30k nx wedding to be 170m or something so it will still remain hard to achieve
and this game's fuucking security sucks and it fuucks many people up
and the new kmst's trend to recolor items and areas make this game even suck more
i hope one day they will remake areas and pqs like dragon rider ghost ship neo city and kerning square soon

Well, if Nexon continues down this path, you might not see Nexon as its own company anymore. According to a thread on SleepyWood (http://www.sleepywood.net/forum/showthre...?p=8918992), Disney is looking to buy up Nexon. So, Nexon may end up under a new management. I don't know if that information is accredited or anything, but if it's true, then at least it'd most likely be a HUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUGE step-up from what we're currently seeing with Nexon. Who knows if Disney would change it to a pay-to-play game, though. =/ Of course, that thread was in 2008. Who knows if they still have plans for it or if they ditched it entirely.
