I just got the game (lol I'm a new Wii user). How long have you been play especially, Kawasari?
P.S. I'm fond of Peach :p she's fun to play.
I play often, as in.. almost 'regularly'. Around 5 days a week. I play against my little brother, who does not play competitively, but knows about the competitive metagame aspect of SSBM. He can wave-dash, but that's the extent of his abilities. I also play against pros like my friends, who would most likely kick my ass 65% of the time. I'll only win if I can pull in decently timed Bairs and Rests. I've been playing Smash since my Junior Year in High School, I'm currently a Junior now in University. 4 years or so, haha. I knew about Smash way before that though. There's a local cafe that I go to, and gamers are usually there. Of course, all of these gamers are my friends since High School, so heh. They usually play Smash really late at night, and I'll stop by to practice a bit. What they've done in my township, is held a couple SSBM tourneys. I've never won any, to be honest. People will literally come down from Pittsburgh just to attend. There are some seriously great pros in my town, some of them, I won't even bother playing against because I've witnessed how good they are. @___@
Most of the players in my town mains a variety of characters. Personally, I know there's a:
-Captain Falcon/Bowser/Jigglypuff player (my bestfriend @_@)
-Peach player
-Fox/Ganon player
-2 Falco players (they're really beast..)
-Sheik/Zelda player
-Jig player (me)
They switch characters around a lot, but I think I'm the only one that uses Jigglypuff the most.
Takebacker Wrote:I guess since i just started brawl+, i should post discussion here.
How am i supposed to incorporate grabs into a rest combo in this game? I don't know how hard it was in melee (apparently it was way easier), or if it's the same way in brawl+ compared to brawl.
Also, how do you (khoi) edge guard with jigglypuff? Sing guard? Edge hogging?
Grab to rest is basically an up-throw when your opponent is at low percentile and a short-jump into Rest. It's really hard to do at times, if your opponent has great reflexes and either:
a) DI's out of it
b) Up-jumps in-midair
Either way, causing you to miss. If you miss against Captain Falcon, you're pretty much done for. It's game over. He'll either knee you right in the nuts, or Falcon Punch your face. It's pretty much automatic death if you miss a Rest on Captain Falcon. <_< What I usually do is Up-smash, backjump and then Rest, but this takes precise timing. I'll only grab to up-throw, and then rest only if I'm certain I'll land it. In one of my two videos up on YT, I backjumped into Rest against a Fox.
3 ways I personally use Rest in Melee:
1) Up-smash, back jump into them while they're in mid-air and then Rest.
2) Up-smash into up-tilt (Jigs basically does a strong headbutt which sends your opponent upwards, then as they land, you 'juggle' them with your foot, and then..) .. and Rest, and I only do this at low-percentile because Up-Smash -> Up Tilt -> Smash is only effective then. At higher percentages, your Up-Smash sends them up too high, or your Up-tilt kicks them up too high, making it harder to aim and Rest, as well as forcing you to jump higher. <_< [Actually, look at EarthAdept's video, that = Uptilt into Rest. Only thing it didn't have was the up-smash, but he was so precised at it, he didn't need it. Damn, Magus is good..]
3) Grab -> Up Throw -> Short hop into Rest
As for edge-guarding, I've done two things. Literally edge-hog, and just hang on the edge when they're off-screen, if it's Falco, it's already over. Just grab onto edge, if you think his Illusion might hit you, just tap 'down' to under and then bair his ass out, or spam fair like a mofo til he's out. Or if you're on platform, just short-hop into bair over and over and over.

Sh't. I've seen that already, actually. Crazy sh't. My friends can't even double-stick DI/teching, but I'm trying to learn how to do it at home right now. This is Double-stick DI (for you non competitive Smashers, or newcomers):

PS: Actually, after my Public Speaking class (which is at 2 PM), I'll be heading down to the TV-Lounge/gaming room here at my uni, and I'll be playing SSBM against LOLbrawl people. I need the practice, so I let them gang up on me via team-battle, but team-attack is on. They can choose the stage, as long as it isn't a gay stage... Usual rules.

4 years playing, yeah. However, I started out like everyone else, a newbie/newcomer. Only around my 2nd or 3rd year did I started playing competitively. My SSBM characters timeline (all mains)
Young Link -> Fox (semi-competitive play) -> Jigs (competitive play).
Reason is, I started out playing normally. When I played Fox, I started learning a bit, and knew of competitive play, and eventually, I got into it a bit. When I switched to Jigs, was when it became serious sh't. Try out more than 1 character, you'd be surprised who you may be good at.. I tried out Jigs as a joke, and found out my DI'ing, teching, and etc was significantly better than if I were to play Fox. I play Falco and Falcon for luls too, and use them to beat noobs, but other than that, they're sorta like my LOLsecondaries.

This is my favorite Brawl fight. It really does well in capturing the fun and satisfaction that comes with competitive play. I want to be just like UTDZac one day.

Lol. Gay&Win, actually, he's not bad to use in Melee, but anybody who plays as him pretty much gets assraped. I'm assuming you posted that just to lol at us, but k. `-`Actually, first two minutes was pretty boring.
PS: Thread's mainly for Melee, but I don't see why Brawl wouldn't work for this either. So uhh, blow your nuts out, guys. `-`

Magus is good. So fcking good. I want his skills. ;~; He makes HBOX looks like a homosexual. Seriously . . Actually, all HBOX does are awesomely timed Rests, Rest-combos. But man, Magus... Magus is something else. ;~;

My jaw just DROPPED from watching that. Best part is, he's so goddamn conservative on his spacing and movements. He also doesn't spam bairs like a motherfcker, unlike Mango and Hbox. Amazing.

Lol @ Jig's high % during 1st stock. . . .
EDIT: Actually, I youtubed a bit, and M2K played a HUGE variety of low-tiers during '05. I didn't get it either. Friendlies, I'm thinking. But his Link was just LOLtastic.

And I honestly don't see how he's spamming bairs. He's throwing in fairs, nairs, and uairs. If you're talking about him spamming bairs when peach is off stage, that's more or less just the typical walling.

Maybe I should have elaborated. :X When I used the term spam, I meant it loosely, like over-using, not as continuously over and over. I admit, Mango's really beast with his timing though. That's why he rapes Hbox during Jig-dittos. If you were to compare Magus' playing style in comparison to Mango's, there's a massive difference. I'm actually going to try to watch more videos over the weekend, so I can learn to change up my style a bit too. Using bairs too much creates a predictable pattern. Though I admit, it's very powerful, fast, and easy to maneuver. It's just.. predictable once your opponent knows how you space. That's how my friend lost to me only during the 1st round, then during the 2nd round and after, he noticed the way I shffl'ed and spaced my bairs, and he just started raping my ass. >>

And yet even if you say it gets predictable, Hbox is ranked #2 in the world. But I'm not in the position to talk about puff since I barely know anything about her aside from watching mango, hbox, and darc. All I know is that Mango and Hbox are the revolutionary puffs of this generation.
Wow, Magus sure is a grounded puff lol. And that falco is retarded for using dairs repeatedly on a jiggly past 120%, definitely not used to the matchup (as far as I can tell from several other matches).

This is, EA. Magus hasn't played against Hbox, nor Mango. I even searched. Magus doesn't have too many fights that's uploaded on YT. Strangely, to be, he seems better than Hbox. Hbox's movements are extremely predictable. Magus is hard to predict, period. Like you said, he's a grounded Jigglypuff, every Jig and their mother prefers aerials becauce Jigs is a god on air. I'm waiting until there's a Magus vs <insert some other Jigglypuff> match.

Brawl-Marth or Melee-Marth? If it's Melee-Marth, or Melee-Falcon, chain grabbing = luls.

No doubt those Puffs were very good, but I don't think there's a more boring matchup than a Puff ditto. Almost fell asleep on the first one.

That's why I can't stand doing Puff-ditto matches. One of my friends, if he thinks I'm getting really good, he'll switch over to a Jigs, and if.. we're on Dreamland, or FD, the matches takes effing forever. Because we both shield a sh'tload, and it's basically trading hits, see who bairs first, or who has better reflexes. Fcking hate Puff-dittos, takes too damn long. x_x But that last match was just crazy. So damn intense.
