MTS tax - good or bad thing?
#21
The MTS tax has basically killed my MTS sales. I used to sell a lot of items for 221 NX, since the new tax was introduced I've probably sold 5 things at that price. For such a savvy money making company this is the worst decision they have made.

The new MTS tax has just ruined my plans for making a great dexless Bucc... I'm so mad at Nexon, but than again i'm also happy. =D One reason is because scrolls for glove att 60% are being sold 3 for 1k nx, =D more chances to make a 10 atk white work glove or even higher. XD
I'm just waiting for Nexon to realize their mess up and fix it. I can't sell any of my pomegranate.

That's basically been what I've been doing too. This was the dumbest business decision Nexon made. Even a brain-dead monkey could've seen that this was a baaaaaaad move. I guess they just don't know the phrase "If it's not broken, don't fix it." Oh wait, to them it's "If it's not broken, oh well, we'll fu'ck with it anyway until it's completely beyond comprehensible use!!!!"

Since we all appear to be in agreement that Nexon completely and utterly broke MTS (as they do with everything they touch) with the tax except for use as storage (which ironically was their reasoning to impose the tax that destroyed MTS), what can we do to make them realize the error of their ways? The sooner they change it back the sooner both us and Nexon will benefit. I guess the better question is: is there anything we can do?

ya MTS got killed, i used to make 3k NX day just selling small items and scrolls and ores that i used to get everyday, now that is all gone, i still make sales but just items above 30k nx, most above 50k nx where the tax is not that bad but, i cant make a sale like that all the time.

and about buying... i used to buy a bunch of scrolls, scrolls that arent so easy to find sometimes and i could find on MTS for a good price, now i still can find scrolls and all but the price is out of reality due the taxes what makes me just waste more time searching and buy the scroll for mesos.

in the end what bug me is the fact that nexon used the "storage" excuse to broke the whole MTS system, as in fact that is the really the only utility of that system now, store items. (or make huge sales over 30k )

i never really used it before, outside of "hey, ive managed to get 200 of these things, lets sell them for the lowest amount." overtime that added up, but never by that much. now, as others have already stated, i mostly use it for storing crap i get from drops if i dont NPC it first. its funny, they said that the tax change was designed to prevent people from using it as a storage space, but in the end thats all theyve made it out to be.

Well, duh, it wasn't meant to be a good reason in the first place. It was just a thinly veiled excuse to make people buy more nx instead of using MTS to merchant exclusively for it. Nexon doesn't benefit much if most of its users get all the pluses of NX without actual money changing hands.

No, you've got it completely wrong. The NX has to come from somewhere, and even with the tax before, Nexon is still making more.

Someone buys a $10 NX card and dumps that NX into the MTS. The person who received that 10k NX is taxed, so they receive less NX. In effect, Nexon just sold a kid $9 for $10. The tax isn't that high, but you get the idea. Nexon makes more money with more people using the MTS, not the other way around. It's not as if the MTS generates NX for each transaction. Someone still has to pocket out the money for that NX at one point or another.

If people want nx, they have three options: purchasing, mts, or meso exchange. If MTS becomes a less viable method, people stop using it, as evidenced by the experiences of those in this thread. Whether this actually makes more people go out and buy NX, I don't know, but it certainly doesn't help the people who don't buy it in the first place.

Don't forget, a bulk of nx probably goes toward clothes, 2x, CS items, so that NX is thrown into a money dump, not MTS. Unless there's more people than I think that do straight NX purchases in MTS.

A very good question, with a pretty simple answer, even if it's the answer that most of us don't necessarily like.

The truth is that Nexon may not know all the ins and outs of the actual gameplay, but they know EXACTLY what they're doing when it comes to profit. They have access to sales numbers and statistics from the mts that you don't. They've correctly determined that enough people still throw items in the mts for '110'. Although less people may actually buy these items, enough of them still will. The players adjust... perhaps concentrating on selling more 'big ticket' items in the mts (rather than doing it for mesos in-game.... notice the ever-increasing list of mts-able items?), or maybe buying nx cards because they find it a bit more difficult to sell the 'small ticket' items they used to in the mts.

Put simply, I believe this to be true because as someone mentioned before: If Nexon wasn't making more money with the new tax, they'd have already changed it back by now.

As an aside, after a month or two, I've learned to adjust to the new tax. I used to (as many of us did) live off of small mts sales almost exclusively. But it's entirely possible to still make a nice nx profit off this game. Wink

If that's the case then my best course of action if I ever want the fees to be reasonable again is to continue to use MTS for storage, and nothing else...

I don't know why the tax in MTS is reversed - everywhere else, the more you have the more tax you pay. Here, the less you have, the more you pay - it drives away anyone under a certain threshold, which appears to be about 50mil - and believe it or not, the majority of the players don't have that much money to toss around :|

It's such a waste of a good idea. All the micro-transactions made up a really big chunk of the MTSers. I really don't see how taxing the most active MTSers is supposed to help. Maybe a good 75% of the people were selling things for 221 NX a pop. Take away the 75% and there's only the people who buy the big time items, and for being taxed LESS Nexon overall lost MTSers and made MTSing the big items less expensive for buyers. This makes no sense. The only excuse Nexon can give for such a dumb change is that their servers couldn't handle all the transactions, which is just ridiculous. How is driving away MTSers a good thing? They don't get to tax as many kiddies who are too lazy to get 200 horns so they get MORE NX so they can exchange quest moar.

It doesn't even fix the "storage problem" that it was supposed to address. Lose-Lose situation.

They probably thought more people would go out and buy NX from the store since it's harder to make in MTS.

Thing is, every single cent in the MTS already came from NX. Making the MTS less useful cuts both ways - people use it less, so the people who were injecting NX into it have less incentive to do so (less items available, especially the cheap ones where it's like "whatever, 20 cents for a quest"), but the people who used it to make NX can't. All it leaves are the crazy people willing to spend $200 on a virtual item... and that is less common than the one who charged 10 bucks, had 800 NX left after buying their pet, and just wants to use it.

How have your buying habits changed since this tax?

I buy nothing now, as before I did with cheap quest items/scrollable clean equips before.

Do you tend to buy more expensive items now?

Not at all, unless they are cheap and in bulks, but people never put them up on sale in bulks.

Do you still buy the cheap items you used to (if you did)? Items that can be included are quest items, etc. items and clean equipment.

See First Response.

How have your selling habits changed since this tax?

For one, I no longer upload just anything. Etc. items that were moderately useful or whatnot are now just NPC food, and only more demanded scrolls and equipments are uploaded, rest is NPC food (Or storage in MTS).

Do you still sell the same items? If so, do you still receive the same amount after taxes or has this amount changed (higher or lower)?

See above for items. I hardly get the same amount from before, I usually have to price my items lower than the average price (or in bulks), and if I am lucky, then I would get some deficit (Not a typo, deficit, you heard me).

Has the speed in which items are being bought changed? ie. Do your items sell out as quickly as they used to?

Of course, I think that people may have less incentive to use the MTS due to the new tax, and so even if I do upload demanded/items in bulk, there is no guarantee that I will sell it. Simply put, if they do not sell in the first 1-3 days, they are going to be in my transfer inventory by the end of the upload period.

Overall, how has this change affected you? Include any info not previously asked for that you believe is significant.

Oh the usual: Hate Nexon more (For their ignorance on about... OVER NINE THOUUUUUUUUUSAND! things), and love Private Servers more (Lulz).

Well, I am much less likely to buy NX since nothing in the MTS is worth it anymore, and that I am not fond of expiring items in the Cash Shop anyway (Of course, the recent release of permanent items changes things a little, but it is only a one-time thing), so I have fewer reasons to buy/possess NX.

This is just me, but unless Nexon has events that may give good returns for NX investments (Such as Gold Box) event, I would have no reason to use NX (maybe except for 2x exp card once in a blue moon). I really have bought less NX this way as opposed to the MTS tax before where all year long I would be tempted to get some NX and make use of the MTS.

I don't beleive this up in base nx start off helps at all.. I used to sell those teency things for 221 nx. Now I have no use off a damned cape dex 60%, and 10%, so to say.
They really beleived people would stop abuse yet they are losing more and more nx since their change. The only thing I get outta the mts is storage...

90% of my MTS transactions were just selling 10 60% glove atts at a time. They still are. Hasn't changed much. What sucks more is that Galloperas drop them.

For myself, I've never bought anything out of mts other than perfect shoes to mass scroll. Simply put, its easier than owling for them in fm.

As for selling, it has affected me quite a bit. Before, I'd hunt fox, and stick all the tails in there for 200/221 and they'd actually sell. That would mean Im getting nx, even when Im not getting lucky with scrolls. However, now I just end up npcing the tails.

As for scrolls, I find that I tend to collect a bunch to sell in bundles now as the tax is less harsh that way (in fact you get more money for selling in bundles than you used to...I think?).

As many above have said, MTS was a good way to exchange quest items, be it buy or sell, and now that option is gone. Im really not sure how eliminating a big portion of items that can be bought/sold in MTS makes it better, but Im sure Nexon has their reasonings, however unreasonable they might be.

Then again, they make more nx off desparate kids. Before, they'd buy those 200 lupin dolls for 221, now they pay 617 for the exact same thing, lol.

If we could just bundle items in more than their stacks (eg. 1000 lupin dolls for 1000 nx) the tax would be a lot less disruptive.

It would also make the MTS as a storage a lot more efficient... imagine putting 5000 Newtie Eggshells into 1 sale slot.

I quit maple altogether after the NX change.

I used to go to area bosses to get get things, but now, there's no reason for me to do anything else. For that reason, I stopped playing.

The really sad thing the people who are supposed to benefit from the lower % rate hardly see any difference.
