If you don't like the challange taken away, don't use x2 cards or entitlements. I've always like the curve, it just made things a little easier. 20% at most really isn't at lot.

I'd like for it to be kept. We don't all play for sheer challenge, and getting to 200 is still an accomplishment if you actually play rather than buy leech or whatever else. It still takes thousands of hours to get there. If you want to challenge yourself there are all sorts of things you can do, if you wish to play that way, like avoiding training during 2x events, not buying 2x cards, use crappy equipment, etc. I've worked very hard up to get to where I am, and I'm still a long way away from 200. I get no pleasure out of the idea of having to work 20 - 25% LONGER (not harder) just to get a big red dragon mount, since that's the best part about being a level 200 besides bragging rights.
But yeah, if you want a challenge then challenge yourself, don't expect everyone else to take the hit for it. Even now the game is challenging enough (in that people hoping to reach 200 have to take a LOT of time out of their lives to have to do it.)
Ahhh I'm such a hypocrite. I am suddenly reminded of how I wanted everyone to be rolled back for my monster book to be fixed. Talk about taking a hit. <33

Not true. It's a real challenge for a lot of people to finds thousands of hours to play a game.

Are people really so masochistic to say that playing a character for 3-4 years to level 200 is not a big enough investment of their time?
Oh noes it'll only take 2-3 years now! RAAAAAAAAGE!!!!!1

See, this is wrong with competitive things such as MMOs. The moment something in there becomes easier, people will throw fits of rage, saying things such as "CASUALS DONT DESERVE THIS", "IF YOU CAN"T HANDLE IT, QUIT", and "THE OLD WAY TAKES SKILL".
Yes, it's fine to ask for proper rewards based on effort, but what happens when that effort begins to feel masochistic and even worse than a real-life job that it becomes "work" so you can say that you did the "hard work" to earn it? Remember, it's still a game, it was never supposed to be considered "work" to begin with. And yet, people still call it "work" for the sake of keeping the masochistic ways.

Why is it that you think this should be the only option? YOU DON'T LIKE THE OLD EXPERIENCE CURVE AND WE DO? THAT'S FINE, DON'T HIT 200.
Sorry, but some of us play games for fun and DO want to complete them at some point (which it is generally agreed upon that 200 is the end of maple, regardless of whether you start another character afterward or keep playing) while not being forced to spend most of our free time getting there for the next several years just because a small group of people want things to stay the same forever.

40 hours =/= 4 years or 40,000 hours.
edit: sorry double post I figured someone else would've posted already.
edit again: Anyway the point is, Maple Story shouldn't be a lifelong investment of all our time. It should be something even casual gamers can pick up on occasion over the span of however long it's running with the expectation that they're not going to be pitifully weak in 3 years time just because they didn't play for 12 hours a day.

You can still play after lv 200. However, the overall experience of leveling feeling smoother is better.
hai guys, this game is da bomb. Each lv iz a challnge, bcuz it takes 10 hours to beat it.
Seriously? I want to have fun with a game, not feeling the need I need to stay 10 straight hours to enjoy it.
You got to lv 192 with the old curve? That's a great achievement! What do you loose with less exp now? NOTHING. It's like giving away free stuff to random people, and you complain because they didn't earn it. Well, you don't loose anything, do you? Then, why do you complain?

But it's not the same at all. Someone who couldn't spend 40 hours on a game wouldn't realistically go into a game like maple with the expectation of eventually hitting 200 in a REASONABLE amount of time. 40 hours is reasonable for a game with a plotline that you follow and a conclusion. Several months of playing moderately is reasonable for a game as rich as maple, maybe. Several years is not reasonable whatsoever, and most people who start playing maple don't hope, want or expect for it to take that much of their time.
I edited my post that you quoted but...

Because that great achievement now is lost. Everyone's able to get to 192, so there's no achievement in it.
Nevertheless, everyone's talking about getting to 200 as if it is a big deal nowadays. It is not. There are 371 people who are already at that level. It was amazing when FangBlade did it, but now it's more of a boredom. It's nothing special.

Really here, let's face it. There's not much to do beyond 130 or so. For some classes, like Archers, there's even less because it takes another 20 levels to get enough HP to do the really high level stuff, which leaves a HUGE BORING GAP where there's absolutely nothing to do but grind on skelegons. I don't see why I should have to waste 200 hours at Skelegons just to be able to move up from Zakum to Horntail, especially when those are the only two things left to do. By lowering the exp rates and giving all these 2x events, it's given those of us who don't enjoy spending the whole day in one map the opportunity to level up and experience more parts of the game. I never would have even tried to get to 14x if it weren't for these events. Hell, by 122 I assumed I was as high as I was going to get and had essentially given up gaining EXP at all. Then the exp reduction comes along, and the 2x, and suddenly my 8% an hour is 14% and training is bearable again! Now, being able to go to Horntail isn't such a far flung dream, because it won't require weeks and weeks of doing nothing but staring at skelegons for hours on end.
I only care about my level as far as it restricts my ability to do things. I am not the slightest bit interested in reaching level 200. It's pointless, because there is nothing I can do at level 200 that I cannot do now. If there were, then I might be more interested in reaching it. But, when the gap between being able to do one thing and the step up to the next level of content is 20-30 levels at 10+ hours per level, that's pretty ridiculous, and anything they do to decrease this, whether it's reduce the time needed or add content in between to bridge the gap, I'm for it.
All that being said the EXP curve is permanent in many other versions so it's likely to expect the same here.

It's not lost. It's still there. You leveled on the old curve. You loose no stats on the new one, you deal the same damage...
How about training only on zombie maps? Because newer players have the advantage of training on newer areas. Someone leveling to 140 only on zombies was a great achievement, too, but I see nobody complain about how that's lost.
EDIT: Isaac, or whatever name you have below that IGN, that's the best post to define all this.

It's not lost at all, he still made at there. If you're doing things just to be better than other people you've got some serious problems. An achievement should be about personal gratification, and in knowing that you made it that far under those conditions should be more than enough for anyone. It shouldn't be about making you feel like you're better than anyone else, 'cause you're not. Especially in a case like Maple Story where it's entirely dependent on the time you're willing to give and not your level of skill.

I'll admit that on occasions in the past, this sort of thing has bothered me (played the same character since Jan '06, only level 126 now, one 3 month break only).
When the haunted house came out; when beginners got skills; when beginners got chairs; when beginners got quests for free pots; when there were actually PQs released for EXP rather than fun; all those things bothered me at the time because of the change in relative difficulty they got away with compared to me in the past. (I couldn't afford pots regularly until I was level 35). You don't see anyone at wild boars, Jr. Kittys, Zombies, or FoG anymore and it bothered me at one point.
But when Ludi deep came out, I wasn't bothered for the simple reason that I hadn't suffered those levels yet. If you aren't being ripped off from the easy way out you don't see it as a problem; and so I've seen both sides of this problem. After a while though, I just gave up on the concept since not only was there no way to stop the progressive flow that NEXON was using, but I realized that I was a hypocrite for thinking that way simply by using new content presented to me.
At this point; honestly, is there any point in complaining anymore? There are so many variants on methods of "training" these days that no one cares about the difference from those of us who train 1x solo and those who leech 4x. People stopped segregation of such things and I've gotten to the point of giving up such ideas. You don't have to join the, but really, it would make your life easier to not stress about it anymore.

Bingo. Level 200 means nothing anymore.
