Just saw Half-blood prince

I just got back and I loved it. I think one of the reasons I loved it so much was because I had half forgotten the book XD. Yes, I do think they could have handled the ending better, I wanted to see Fred / George / whoever it was get mauled by Fenrir Greyback. I did nerd rage at the parts of the movie they missed out, but the other parts made up for it. One part I found awesome was when Ron took the love potion And when Harry took the Felix Felicis (spelling?). One other personal highlight was Luna's hat. I want that hat. Oh, and about when Katie Bell got cursed, Exorcist anyone? That was great, but kinda freaky...

Over all, I really enjoyed it, despite some stuff being missed out, but I was prepared for that. It's great to know they are doing the final movie in two parts, so that's got to be an indicator that they don't want to miss stuff out. But if they don't release two parts at the same time, there's gonna be some ragan.

Well, they couldn't exactly have the Battle of Hogwarts because the D.A. wasn't implemented in the movies. I already knew there wouldn't be a battle scene at the end and didn't bother reading a shred of what was already in the movie.

I like how they portrayed Malfoy, but I do not like how they did the closet scenes. It seemed too random... Pointless. Oh, quick nerd moment here. I laughed with my family that the bird in the closet was actually Schrodinger's cat.

What? Dumbledore's Army was established in the movies (have you seen the 5th one?), but that's not important anyway. Teachers, students and Order members were all fighting the Death Eaters in the Hogwarts battle of book 6. There was no reason to leave it out, and it's terrible that they did. Only reason I can see is money + time. It just added to the horrible weakening of the supposed-to-be-powerful ending.

That reminds me of another of my favorite scenes they really ruined. Using sectum sempra for the first time on Draco in the bathroom. I thought the spell itself was done decently, but not having Snape react and demand Harry bring him the Potions book made me upset. They ruined that scene. In the book I really felt Harry was terrified at what he'd done...I didn't feel that in the movie. It was like, lol better get rid of book now.

On that note, did anyone else notice how little attention they even gave to the Half-Blood Prince's Potions book? It felt like a minor part of the movie, when it's like...supposed to be insanely important. lol You know, with the TITLE even mentioning it. I was afraid they weren't even going to reveal it was Snape's for a while there. haha At least they did that.

And yeah, I didn't like all the crap with Draco testing it either. I agree his character was well done though.

And that's wrong, worse and stupid. It was supposed to be because they were desperately battling, like you said. Harry was desperate for a counter, had read about Sectumsempra and used it having no idea what it would do (just "for enemies"). When he saw the horror it unleashed, he felt great remorse and even fear and confusion (he trusted the book before). That wasn't felt at all in the movie, nor was Snape's going crazy over Harry using one of his spells from his old book. And then Harry absolutely didn't want Snape seeing the book, so he did the switch and was able to hide it because the room sensed his desperation (also done worse in movie...and with Ginny. lolwat).

Nah, I'm actually going to see it soon. Haven't read the thread yet, but hoping it's gonna be good...well, better than #4 and #5...

First thing to do when I get home- re-read the books, watching each movie after each book. Just to get myself back in the groove.

Then actually go watch HBP in theaters. Watching movies in the theaters really isn't my thing, but I can make exceptions...

i agree with felix, i sat through the whole goddamn thing waiting for the ending and it's... just.... boring. major disappointment that they left out the battle. then snape just walks up to harry *shhh*... as if revealing to harry already that they had planned it.

i honestly can't say i enjoyed the movie very much.

if this is all they can deliver with HBP, i don't want to see the next two.

I am actually really pissed. I went into the movie thinking it was going to be amazing but I came out and it was just... bleh. Well, it was still a good $5.50 spent.

But seriously, the main thing that pissed me off was the lack of action. I was hoping for some seriously... something. Anything. The pomegranate in the tower, was dramatic but dull as rocks. The nonsense at the Wesley house was just downright disappointing. Ugh. At least the new 2 movies should be good. =/

I actually loved it. I went to go see it a 2nd time. They couldn't put MORE of the book into the movie b/c it would be WAY over the 2 hour and 30 minutes lol. I do agree some of the action was lacking though after watching it a 2nd time & analyzing it. Of course the 2 new movies are going to be better than this one, it's going to be the end lol..

was anyone else surprised that there was as little discussion of horcruxes as there was? the next movie is going to be a hard sell without pulling something out of there ass at this point imo. also, snape was a wuss, he's supposed to be able to hide his true allegiance even from voldy, but bellatrix toys with him and he is openly remorseful far too often.

I saw HBP 5 days ago b/c my mom wanted to see it for her bday. She loved the movie but thought the end was kinda boring... and she hasn't read the books. I, however, was vastly disappointed. I made sure not to read the 6th book before going to see the movie so I didn't end up sitting there the whole movie going "That's wrong, that's wrong. WTP, dementors don't pineappling FLY like that!!! Dumbpineapples. " Personally, I like the 5th movie the best just because I hate the 5th book... Harry's too much of a dramatic, angsty, whiny little peach and there's like 9809384023984092384 pages about Umbridge. God, it's borderline Tolkien with droning on about one thing for too long. *ahem* Sorry... mini-nerd rage.

#1 biggest disappointment: Siege of Hogwarts... or lack thereof. Seriously... what the ? Book: Awe-inspiring page-turning rallying of the profs and of-age students to defend Hogwarts from a small contingent of DE's Movie: Oh look, Draco let in 4 DE's to play around in the castle. Goody. Why did they even bother with the stupid burning of the Burrow? That's good Siege of Hogwarts time they wasted on something NOT EVEN IN THE PINEAPPLING BOOK!!!

I almost nerd-raged in the beginning of the movie when I thought they left out the Unbreakable Vow.

Ugh, the Sectumsempra scene. Harry didn't seem to give a pomegranate what he had just done to Draco, Snape seemed just concerned for Draco's well-being as opposed to raging at Harry for using that spell. Then they all sit around staring at the book for half a day? nty. And couldn't they have found a better spot for that Harry-Ginny kiss? It's supposed to happen after they win the Quidditch Cup if I remember correctly... but due to time constraints they don't do more than one quidditch match per movie. Why stick the kiss THERE though and have Ginny hide the book? It's only because Harry hides the book and puts the diadem on top of the bust on the cabinet thing that he even KNOWS the diadem is real and... there. I wonder how the pineapple they're going to pull that out of their asses in the 7th movies.

I was displeased with Dumbledore's death scene as well. I think Felix expressed it the best so I won't go into it further.

FFFFFFFFFFFF And worst, WORST, of all was the Dumbledore death scene. HARRY POTTER WATCHING IT FROM BELOW? WHAT THE HELL. ....THAT COMPLETELY RUINS HOW POWERFUL IT WAS. HIM BEING TRAPPED IN HIS BODY, FORCED TO WATCH DUMBLEDORE BE MURDERED BY SNAPE IS HOW IT'S SUPPOSED TO BE DONE. But instead we get HERPA DERP I SEE YOU POTTER, SHHH NOW I GO KILL DUMBLEDORE LOL.


And goodness after he died. Well that's sad let's reflect. ;_; POINTING OUR WANDS AT THE SKY WILL BE GOOD ENOUGH!

Overall, it just seemed to lack passion in the emotions... except for the annoying bimbo, Lavender.

Honestly, I liked the music the best. I evoked the emotions in me that the scene being acted out was supposed to be doing. I think the whole reason I didn't completely hate the movie was because the music made it more than meandering drivel. Dumbledore and Harry landing on the cliff by the cave was an epic 5 seconds... it set things up nicely for the formidable task ahead.
Epic =/= HBP ending.
