Grace period before people loot your spoils

I was only commenting on his cussing. If he's correct, which he is, I don't see why it would be necessary to blow steam at me. Since there isn't really any logical reason that he would need to lose his mind over something like this, then I can only arrive at the conclusion that he's trying to start something, especially when he posts a follow-up telling me to pineapple off.

Yo, MasPan, you need to cool it. Really. Harrisonized said nothing offensive here and you're taking it personally. He never insulted your intelligence at all. All you had to say was, "No, my inventory wasn't full". And that's that. I'm unsure of where you live in the world, but in the USA it's almost four in the morning, and due to that I'd recommend you walk away from the computer, get some rest or punch a punching bag a few times, and come back.

Yeah, what's up with that anyway?
I've seen things like this happening quite a few times.

It's 4am here, but, working night shifts, it's more akin to 2pm for me. It's not so much that I'm tired as that instead of taking what I said at face value, he assumed, because he hadn't experienced the problem, that I was either lying or not paying attention to my own inventory/the map I was killing in. Instead of asking me if anyone else had been killing, he tells me
First - that my inventory was full, which it wasn't.
Second - that someone else did more damage, which wasn't the case, as nobody entered the map during the entire time that I was there.

I overreacted, yes. However, I believe I have every right to be annoyed when someone tells me that I'm wrong based on completely untrue assumptions simply because they've never had the same problem that I had. I apologize for my language and attitude - hopefully I'm well enough known here that people realize that isn't my norm. As I explained to a few people in PMs, I take what I consider insults to my intelligence pretty seriously, mostly due to issues I had in elementary and middle school with bullying and a lack of friends. My good grades/intelligence was all I had at that point in my life that I could use to retaliate, or at least to distinguish myself from them.

Tldr, I apologize for my language and attitude, and hope this won't reflect negatively on my standing here as a normally calm and rational person. I still take offense at what he said and the manner he argued what I claimed though, as he was claiming things that were entirely untrue as a discredit to what I said.

-Edit-
And I wasn't trying to incite anger/arguments with my cursing, I was pissed, and my language/attitude was reflecting that.

We all have rights to feelings, people only judge you by how you react to them.

Now, shall we get back to conversation?

Uh, for what it's worth:

Every character has a gigantic invisible box around them in which players, items, and monsters will load when they come into range. When things are outside of this box, your client doesn't know they exist. This is why players don't show up on the mini map if they're too far away.

The loot block timer on dropped items starts when your client acknowledges that they exist. That is, if a monster drops some mesos and you're WAY off screen when it happens, and you later go over a minute later to pick it up, you won't be able to pick up anything until 10 seconds after the item is in your box.

I've had a lot of experience with this as I usually find a bunch of Jack O Lanterns when I hunt HH and use other characters to pick up the extras. When I move my other characters into the map where it dropped, I'll have to wait 10 seconds before I can pick up the Lantern, even if I spent a good 2 minutes getting to the spot where it dropped.

As for being loot blocked from your own items, I'd assume it's just lag.

Harrisonized, keep your trap shut. You shouldn't have said anything.

I know we don't normally see things eye to eye, but I pretty much lol'd at this. Fiel's quote should apply to any thread Harrison has shat on. (Which is quite a bit.)

That's a bit too much right there Opeth.

Also, thanks Dusk for the explanation.

I remember one weird day, when ANY kill I had, wouldn't give me exp at all, and I had to wait to loot... (well, it was when the PG hackers roamed free)

It was weird, so I just restarted maple, and it was fixed. Now seems to be a good time to ask if anyone ever experienced this :p

This DOES happen, I can confirm it happening to me multiple times. And as Harrisonized says, I know the item wasn't mine to begin with, but one it usually able to pick up items before they disappear, meaning the timing must be different if one CC's into a map with drops already on the ground.

Thank you for putting that into writing; I had been aware of it but hadn't quite thought of it in that way.

I will have to try to notice whether the pickup problem applies more often to items that drop off-screen. I don't think it's lag, however, unless it's very random. For example:

I kill a nest golem that I'm standing right beside (as in, I'll take touch damage if I move over a few pixels), it drops a "destroyed nest" and some mesos, my pet walks over and picks them up. Now I kill a jr newtie on the other side of me, yet when I walk over to pick up the stuff it just dropped, neither I nor my pet can get the items immediately.

I also noticed this when I was killing slimes and stumps for that Easter quest. This resulted in a large scattering of items due to me using Ice Strike. Some could be picked up immediately and others could not. I wonder if there's some sort of random delay created by the server.

This used to be worse a long time ago. If I had two pets out, and the pet without the meso magnet & item pouch equipped walked past any items, I would not be able to pick them up for several seconds, whereas if the lead pet passed them, they'd be picked up. Apparently some patch changed this behavior.

Since a really really long time ago (maybe January 2006) this has applied to any pet without looting items. If it walks over an item, the player can't pick it up anymore, and you have to wait a few seconds.

If they've fixed it that'd be nice >_< For the first couple months I had a pet, it was just a friendly companion, but then it started interfering with drops so I had to splurge the extra $5.00 to let it loot >_<

I had that happening to me as well...

Which makes me wonder... I think you need to put other factors into consideration.
E.g. How close you are to the gMS server (Yes, physically)
According to my US residing friends, us Aus players kinda delay looting on their screen even though we loot straight away. Maybe looting time has to do with something like that... if you have ever played ms with your friend next to each other, walking along the same map... there is always a delay.

I don't know much about this stuff, but that's just my 2 cents...

I'm in NZ, and even on a very good connection, I get a little loot lag. I can't do the trick where you hold down loot and go through a line of drops like I have seen some US players do. On my connection at home (My one at school is a good bit better) I can expect to spend 1 second at least/ item when looting. Unfortunatly the way it is coded is stupid, and completly screws over people that are far from the server. You can only loot one item at a time, and can't start looting the next one until the first one is looted. Pets are different though for some reason, and they can loot many items at the same time. Meaning that for a lagger like myself, a pet really is a good advantage.

It's not what causes the ownership problems though. I'd say that's a glitch.

Here's something I've noticed hasn't been mentioned. If you leave/join a party while you have drops on the ground, they aren't yours anymore and you have to wait out the timer to pick them up.

Yeh loot is really anoying for us aussies and NZers. I gotso sick of it that when I dont have a pet, i dont even bother to loot unless its worth something. I hate watching friends zoom passed a whole row of items and pick them up while im still standing there trying to pick up the first one.

I am playing without a pet recently as well... not gonna get one until my inter-semesters in june... to keep myself off Maple so I study XD
I loot slower than a snail, and I watch US players loot like they got super tubi
Although mu internet connection speed is quite decent, I still lag when I try to loot. It was a lot worse when I used to try and play with DIAL UP...

off topic: Heidi, you from Otago uni? I used to hear my friend complain about the internet connection on campus, saying that was only lil faster than dial up. o.O

same things happens for people playing from brazil. I experienced playing MS when I was on Canada and oh how it is wonderful to loot stuff so fast =D. Also that same lag affects delays after buffs, heal, teleport, potions and your ability to KS
