So we all know that if a monster dies and you dealt the majority damage compared to all other (unpartied) players involved, the drops are entitled to you.
How long do you get to pick up your stuff before the other players can loot your stuff?

I think it's something like 30 seconds, but it may be as few as 10. I remember it being lower for something like the Cake boss, where someone would kill, and masses would stand on the loot. 10 seconds later someone would loot it. However, I've come into a map with drops on it and waited up to 30 seconds before I could loot.

It's somewhere between 10 and 20 seconds, but i'm sure it's somewhere on the lower end of that.

It seems to be longer if you enter the map after the kill takes place. I've seen etcs on the ground while hunting King Clang and been unable to loot them for around 30 seconds.

Lately I'm often unable to loot my own drops for 10 seconds or more, and this is from normal monster kills. It bugs me.
As for looting from bosses, I think it depends on how pissed off you're going to be if someone else loots it. If it's a good item you want, and you can't get to it in 8 seconds for some reason, somebody will grab it after 7 seconds. Don't ask me how the game developers managed to program it, but there it is.

Every now and then, I come upon drops that I can't pick up no matter how much time passes, and I see them disappear into the wind. =(

The only ones that disappear are the ones that remain on the server when there's nobody in the map, but then disappear when you CC in.

Perhaps you should consider this scenario.
Someone else killed the monster and the etc drop has been on the floor for X (doesn't really matter) amount of seconds but will disappear in 10 seconds (as an example). You just came into the map and as such have to wait an even larger amount of time before looting items from other people than if you were already on the map when the killling occured (I've tested that statement btw). Well, since you're forced to wait longer than the time that the item has before it expires, you continuously mash the "Loot" button; yet, to your demise, the item vanishes.
It's happened to me when I was up at Windraiders collecting crimson wood for my Crimson Arcanon. I saw a piece of crimson wood there and attempted to loot it. It wouldn't let me and i definitely had space since i had 3XX amount of firewoods in my inventory and i still didn't have the 400 i needed. conclusion: I had 1 slot of crimson wood that was NOT at 100, thus that wasn't the problem. The item ended up disappearing before I could loot it.
So yeah, consider that people MIGHT actually be telling the truth instead of immediately dismissing what they say simply because you "think" it can't happen.

Tell that to my 3 rows of empty etc slots when trying to loot a single cold eye tail. Every other tail looted fine, but for some reason it wouldn't. Don't ever dismiss something I say as "you didn't pay attention to your inventory" again. I'm extremely insulted that you think I am dumb enough to immediately chalk up not being able to loot something to a glitch without doing the quick test of opening my inventory. It takes a lot to piss me off, but insulting my intelligence will do that very quickly. I'm going to refrain from posting for a while, lest I say something that gets me an infraction. I suggest you think carefully about what you're implying before posting in the future.

I have never observed this phenomenon happening at all nor have I heard of anyone other than the people in this thread, that items that are supposed to be yours don't loot correctly. Be sure that the item really was supposed to be yours, as in you did the majority damage to it. Also, be sure you don't "move out of range", forget that you didn't do the majority damage, and then think that you did. Every time you move out of range, the item ownership resets.

I thought it would be obvious as most people who post here have played MS for long enough to know about item ownership. Apparently, I was wrong.

I was the only person on the fucking map for at least 15 minutes (this was during my 4hour solo on 2x drop). Again, do not ever insult my intelligence by assuming I would say something like that without looking into all other possibilities. This has happened to me several times in my mapling career, on the average of around once or twice a month. I am now thoroughly pissed off that you refuse to listen to what I'm telling you, and am starting to see why Opeth and Greg are so fond of making fun of you. Congratufuckinglations, you just lost any credibility that you had in my eyes.

I definitely dealt the most damage and the only one on the map.
It just happens. No need to go blaming people of false accusations.

Maspan, I'd say, just ignore him, otherwise the argument will continue. He was correct in that I misinterpreted the earlier posts. However, the responses he gives just tend to incite arguments (such as this one) that don't benefit people. Given this same topic, we COULD actually reach a point where the conversation becomes beneficial; however, this doesn't seem to occur once he begins posting and arguments ensue.
And to stay on topic, I'll try to find an exact time tomorrow (for my own purposes too) with a friend and a stopwatch.

I didn't give full context because most normal people CHECK their inventories when they can't loot something that they know is theirs. If there was someone else on the map, I would have found that significant enough to mention. Hmm, someone else killed this and I can't loot, I wonder why?
From now on, for your sake, I will post everything possible about a situation. I logged on a 4:30pm est and started killing cold eyes for approximately 14minutes and 37 seconds. On my 1,213th kill, I attempted to loot the resulting cold eye tail (156 mesos also dropped, which I was able to loot). I was unable to. After attempting to loot the tail for approximately 2minutes and 15 seconds, I gave up and moved on. I had 13 buddies online and 21 guildmates. Nobody entered my map in the meantime. Now, for my sake, pineapple off.

Inciting arguments isn't always cause just by what you can clearly see. In fact, being defensive and then passing the whole blame onto someone else.... definitely inciting something there.
You could have simply said, "Well I'm sorry if it appears that way. However, I can assure you I'm not trying to start anything there."
Now compare that to:
"Well I'm sorry if it appears that way. However, I can assure you I'm not trying to start anything there. However, MasPan definitely is the one trying to start something."
Hopefully you can see what I'm trying to get across here.
