I don't think those are comparable; the tenant temporarily owns the space they are living in because they are paying the landlord for it. A kid does not, so they own absolutely nothing; if he really wanted to be a plantain, he could have just burned all of her stuff. I think he went pretty easy on her considering the number of repeat offenses and the language she was using directly against them. Sure words can't physically hurt you, but it's kind of a kick in the nuts when you realize your kid is so ungrateful that they won't even help you survive when you get too old to live on your own.
