Not only would the laptop have been broken had he not fixed and spent >>>his money<<< on it, but she would have had it taken away had he decided not to shoot it anyway. By the time she would have gotten it back (3 years later, assuming he would still keep his word about grounding her for that long) it would be too outdated for selling it to accomplish much.
