Hurricane Irene - its potential impact on the East Coast

I'm not overly worried, but I never really had a major hurricane here....

They are awesome when your butt is safe.

Man, I still remember hurricane Georges. The power of the wind was insane (you could hear it freaking roar, literally). But the part that left me in awe was when the eye was right on top of us. Seriously, everything suddenly calmed down, not a single drop of rain or anything. And just as sudden, bang, butt raped by the reversal of the storm which was a whole lot worse than the first part of the hurricane. Insane.

I experienced this while on a safe place in a sort of rural/open environment btw. My experience there does not even compare with what the urban and mountainous areas went through.

That was Cat. 3 though. I suppose people should be expecting winds similar to the ones shown on the first few seconds of that video. It can be dangerous if basic safety measures aren't taken. Like, get the pineapple out of the street, steer clear of glass windows, and evacuate if your area is prone to flooding... Commons sense stuff.
