And the status quo doesn't change much if mages get an alternative to ultimate-spamming that's perhaps equally, or nearly equally as effective yet requires them to actually do something.

It's not just the fact that mages can out-DPS every other class by a large margin in practical situations. It's that they can out-DPS every other class while standing in one place and holding down a button.

1. MP cost.
2. If we still trained this fast without ultimates, people would peach even more due to the lack of a high MP cost.
