What skills are supposedly "good" for Shooters and how does their mobbing/single target compare with other classes?
Cannon Shooters pomegranate all over other ranged physical characters 1st through 3rd job except now Mercedes (and ranged characters pomegranate all over melee characters 1st through 3rd job), and 1st through 3rd job are primarily what was changed for Cannon Shooter before everyone started crying. The only nerf in 4th job is making Buster a Single Target instead of a strong multi-target with almost no single target capacity, and changing Support Monkey Twins into Octopus because it doesn't mob anymore.
1st job, they have a ranged mob skill that's fast and a movement skill that doubles as a very fast mob skill.
2nd job, they have a rushing skill that hits 8 monsters. It does as much DPS to 8 as 3rd job mobbing skills of other characters. And it Rushes.
3rd job, Cannon Spike is the strongest non-Magician 3rd job mobbing skill in the game and it has absurd range. They nerfed it and it was still the strongest 3rd job mobbing skill. Then they buffed it again. It does nearly as much damage as Arrow Rain/Eruption on 10 monsters, and 10 monsters is almost impossible to get for an Archer.
4th job, Bazooka has the largest horizontal range of any skill, as far as I know, and does about equal DPS of Warrior mobbing, but can be boosted more by weapon speed increases during bossing. In training, it basically OHKO anythings and requires them to not need to move, even if it doesn't OHKO. Magnetic Anchor does really high damage for a mobbing summon as well as controlling where they are. Mechanically, they perform the best mobbing in the game. Their single target sucks because it's poorly designed. Their design philosophy appears to be a primarily training and mobbing role with support from their buffs. Everyone wants single target DPS. You can say the same thing about Buccaneers and why they shouldn't exist if that's your argument.
