It stacks additively with +% HP from skills and equips, so it's not 1.4x your HP at all times.
For example, I'm assuming you're talking about a NL?
You have Shadow Resistance, so your base HP is 5944 / 1.1, which gives you ~5404, if you multiply that by 1.5 (10% from Shadow Resistance and 40% from Decent HB) you get ~8106 HP
