Not sure if you have, but I think certain skills were spammed a lot more frequently than Brawl in competitive tournaments.I did play Melee, but I wasn't a part of the competitive group. Even with Brawl, I wouldn't say I'm at all connected to the "competitive" crowd.
And yeah, I know pumpernickel was just flat out retarded in Melee. It still throws me every time I consider that people were actually MAD that Nintendo went out of their way to remove heavily abused glitches present in Melee. Then as soon as similar tactics were discovered for Brawl people hopped on it and started abusing the pineapple out of them.
Like really, when I play against someone as Snake and he slides from one side of the stage to the other, it's not so much the unfair advantage this might give him that gets to me so much as the fact that it makes no sense at all. After all, there are plenty of characters with inherent properties which give a much heavier advantage than simply being able to slide while charging an up smash. Have you ever seen a Samus player who has good mastery of aerial tether attacks?
Quote:I spam Wave-Shine pretty often myself, when I used Fox as a primary character in Melee. I won't lie, but if the strategy stopped working, I'd immediately switch to something else. I didn't win all matches, but I won quite a fair of them. I loved competitive matches, personally. xDMeh. Winning isn't everything. I'd rather have fun in a match and lose to someone who has a strong command of the character, than win a match by spamming annoying combos or abusing illogical glitches.
