Humans are stupid; Feelings are not a finite thing you have x amount to give. They're also not rational and can't be expected to live up to whatever arbitrary laws you whimsically declare they should. If it were that simple there wouldn't be any form of diversity, any unrequited loves, any homosexuality or variation.
