Our legal system allows for all this information to be kept confidential unless the subject has done something illegal or extreme. Plus, it's not just about facebook, they have your credit records, medical records, tax history, etc. So don't think this is something new.

Sure, all of the information is in a supermassive database that would be impossible to browse normally, but if they want your information and know your name, they already have it. As long as they don't start abusing it (IE, randomly searching and arresting people without a warrant or reason), I'm actually fine with it, they need the information, gathering data can be a long process that they won't always have when trying to apprehend a criminal.
