I think puppet has some potential, after all... To be changed into something interesting, I mean. Look at Dark Flare, for example. It deals more damage if you are in a party, due to your partners getting hurt. Some thinking out of the box can make something interesting. Maybe a chance to get all the monster's attention for a bit or something.
Like "Von Leon has teleported to the most threatening person" and it warps to your puppet :p
