Well, to be fair, scientists challenge the validity of every discovery that comes along- thats how science works. To get a piece of work published in a journal, it will also have been looked over by multiple others in the field before it gets there, so there must be something to the research worth looking at, even if it doesn't results in proof of alien life.

And you're not a scientist are you? Because virtually every creditable scientist makes research findings known through -gasp- journals and research papers published in said journals.
