Ummm....maybe you missed this part but the scientist is from NASA. The journal of cosmology is just one of many open forums that scientists use to communicate their findings with other scientists and general public.
I would say that this finding is pretty big. It only stands to reason that life exists on other worlds too. It is a big universe and if we are all there is then thats a lot of wasted space.
