One GM (CowboyCoffee) was so well known that he was actually friends with several players (myself included). It was a long time ago, but I know for fact that GMs are on quite a bit. He still worked there last I talked to him, which was sometime last year.
You just don't typically know they're there because of the reasons Locked listed.
