That's because a lot of people are tone deaf, or seem to be. Nowadays most of what I hear people playing is just a generic beat that sounds computer generated combined with auto-tuned vocals. Not that I have too much of a problem with auto-tune (I do listen to Vocaloid songs), it's just they sound like they lack so much for me. It doesn't help that when I hear a lot of them, I hardly hear any real instruments in them because they use one or two, and those are drowned out by the computer generated sounds.
But hey, I don't really mind if people like that, you're entitled to like what you want. I won't lie and say I don't have my fair share of songs that follow a generic sound in my library, though those aren't exactly popular.
