Pretty much everything after and including Pirates has been the fault of the Black Mage. If they add him as a boss they're pretty much saying "this is the last boss, guys." MMOs don't do that.

It's not like there's going to be a African-American Black Mage, who, in reality, was manipulating the Black Mage into being all evil and stuff.

Anyways, I had a thought, you go into the past, defeat the Black Mage, and eventually the present day is changed allowing for some other new bad guy to pop up. It would be, say, a month, a year after Black Mage is fightable, they change the future, with a new bad guy, or one that eventually comes along. Or after the month to a year period, they nerf Maplestory as we know it, destroying all characters, and start a whole new story, possibly without legends, Cygnus, and anything related to the Black Mage (not at all likely).
