I think you need to have the available inputs.
a speaker port, and a subwoofer port. Most current motherboards have onboard sound inputs. Do you have a slot for a sound card?

If you buy a 2.1, you would be using the green and orange slots. They are next to each other in the pic. You need those for optimum experience.
