Because the titles are messed up. Green was actually released under the name "Blue Version" so the original Blue version is the one that wasn't released outside of Japan because of the title change. The international version of Red was released here using the Blue Version's sprites, and engine instead of its original sprites. It's like re-modifying Final Fantasy IV by naming it Final Fantasy II and using the Easy Type engine.

Here are the quick comparison.

So yeah. That's why I prefer Japanese version over North American version.

Anyways, got through Route 25 on the Blue Version. Now I'm going to do Yellow version.
