Glad you decided to go with Blue Mage, they're my favorite class in all of Final Fantasy. Your animilist(Or whatever it's called) will help a lot in getting the abilities, but I'm sure I don't have to tell you that.
I got my Blue Mage a little late, so I can't get Goblin Punch any more...I haven't really seen any Thundrakes around though.
I just discovered a ridiculous efficient way to power level. Have the character you want to power level learn Steal: EXP, then place a really high leveled unit in front of an enemy (which you then proceed to box in...or immobilize)...I think you can guess what to do next :p I got Messara from Lv23 to 31 in under 30 minutes that way. x.x
By the way, Animists don't help in getting Blue Magic at all. It's Beastmasters that do.
