In most situations Reflex works great. It's mostly bosses that make the ability less useful, since they have their own special attacks.
And the Vitanova is a random reward for a quest. So keep questing and you'll get it soon enough!

On another note, I just got a Fey Bow from Travel Aid. Tamara's mastered Shadowbind from it, and Marche's learning Aim: Vitals. The Aim: Vitals description says it inflicts a random status ailment, so I decided to try it out on a Soldier in Clan Dip.
Marche: *Uses Aim: Vitals* [SWEET SPOT!]
Soldier: *HP falls to 1*
I was totally shocked. I never knew it could do THAT! >.>
