I still use orb. It's safer to cast, no cooldown, does good hitstun. Agni is better since it actually grabs, but if you don't time it right monsters cancel it easily.
I guess ashe fork and upward cancel aren't really necessary, but I've gotten used to them. If you can live without, you can skip them. Guard I find useful, it's mostly preference. Same goes for backstep + cancel. Don't skip triple slash though, it's great as an escape route.
The awakening passive only works on counter attacks. Which is still awesome since it lowers the chance of you getting interrupted while casting.
Ancient Memory is again preference, I don't personally like it since 79 MP every 40 seconds is quite a bit (and also lasts only 20 secs). It adds a good amount of damage, so if you want it/can spare the points go ahead.
Short swords are stronger but use more MP and raises cooldown on skills. Doesn't apply to every skill though, short swords are only stronger on percent damage moves (neutral wave, wws, quaker, wave eye, ghost orb) and the increased mp + higher cooldown seems to only affect neutral wave, agni, wave eye, and a few others. I'll check tomorrow. I actually just used the bell today to reset from ss into katana, the reason just because katanas feel 'lighter' and let me move around faster, and I feel I can get monsters away from me easier with a katana. Katanas are way more expensive than short swords though. Just try out both for a bit and choose the weapon you like more.
