If you can find a place secluded enough that nobody tries to play Superman, and you have something that can emit enough carbon monoxide (I believe charcoal grills are commonly used and still widely available at an affordable price), then its probably the best way to off yourself.
Most other ways are just flashy. Unless you want others to feel pity for you, there's no reason to leave behind a huge puddle of blood, or your brains splattered on the pavement.
Last statement, approved. Flashy deaths should be discouraged, because they bring more sorrow and pain than need be. Seen so much of it on the news that I no longer care, but the fact that people still goes for stuff like that is saddening.
