Golden Gate Bridge board approves suicide net - Swerve - 2010-03-13 SAN FRANCISCO -- The Golden Gate Bridge Highway and Transportation District's Board of Directors certified this morning a final environmental report on a proposed $50 million net system beneath the bridge that is intended to deter suicides. District spokeswoman Mary Currie said the now that the district has formally adopted the net project, it will proceed with the $5 million for engineering studies but still must find money for the entire project. Eve Meyer, executive director of San Francisco Suicide Prevention praised the board this morning for proceeding with the net system, Currie said. The full board also voted unanimously to proceed with plans to charge carpool vehicles $3 to cross the Golden Gate Bridge during weekday commute hours starting July 1 and raise tolls for multi-axle vehicles starting July 1, 2011. The carpool toll and the increased fees for multi-axle vehicles will help close a $132 million, five-year budget deficit, according to the district. The carpool toll will raise $1.3 million in fiscal year 2010-2011. The multi-axle vehicle tolls will raise $600,000 in fiscal year 2010-2011 and $1.2 million in fiscal year 2011-2012. Half the increase for multi-axle vehicles will begin July 1, 2011 and the rest on July 1, 2012. Golden Gate Bridge board approves suicide net - Baklava - 2010-03-13 In the news. I'd rather that better the school system than 'help' people with self esteem issues. If they want to end it, go ahead. Unless they're morons, they won't jump off knowing there's a net there. ._. 50 million down the drain. LOVE THIS COUNTRY AND HIS SPENDING HABITS. Jumping off a bridge is the second most popular, but the most popular is using firearms according to Suicide.org. In countries where firearms are heavily regulated, such as the UK, the most popular form of suicide tends to be jumping in front of a train. And in third world countries it's pesticide poisoning. Golden Gate Bridge board approves suicide net - Sarah - 2010-03-13 I once did a project on methods of suicide and there was some really fucked up ones. I think the most creative method is also potentially the most gruesome, which is breaking your neck by vehicle. You need a pick up truck, a looong rope, and a tree. Throw rope over tree limb, attach one end to your axle or bumper, then make a noose with the other and put it around your neck. Get in truck, hit gas. Based on how large you are, and how big the window you're putting the rope through is, you could end up either getting decapitated or pulled through the window and hitting the tree and then hitting the ground. Definite death though. Golden Gate Bridge board approves suicide net - Fiel - 2010-03-13 I don't think there's an entry for that at Suicide.org. Golden Gate Bridge board approves suicide net - Yotsuba - 2010-03-13 If you have access to an old vehicle, you could always just leave the car running in the while fixing a hose to the exhaust. Fall asleep peacefully, never wake up. Only problem with this is that if someone notices and "saves" you, you'll probably be a vegetable. This probably doesn't work on newer cars, since they probably screen how much carbon monoxide s vehicle releases before putting it onto the market now. Golden Gate Bridge board approves suicide net - Khoi - 2010-03-13 Probably the easiest method of suicide would be over-dosing, everything else takes too much work. Harder than you would think. Your body will most likely vomit it out before its too late, and stuff that isn't over the counter will usually just make you feel pretty bad with little chance of actually killing you. If you were to overdose on several 'bottles' worth of drugs (depending on what type), could most likely kill you. Of course, as this is with drinking, your body will try to 'push' it out of your system by means of vomiting as a means of self-defense. Normal. Just depends. Edit ; Example, taking an entire bottle of Tylenol at once of course probably won't kill you. It might damage your organs though, along with other side-effects. Your body is more likely to reject it if you take it all down at once rather than in intervals. It's better to let your body absorb a bit, then switch to a second dose of it and so on. But yes, that does depend on the drug, since not every drug is different. You have a better chance at causing damage to your body than you do of actual death though, in most cases. Assuming we're talking non-prescription or illegal drugs, since those are harder to get your hands on. You can do it by using multiple types of drugs (mix and match = easier death), since some drugs are not meant to be combined together in the body. Though I admit, I agree that the body does take it's time to absorb any type of drugs.. Hell, Google up anything related to over-dosing, and most over-dose cases involves the user involved with multiple types of drugs being mixed together in their body. Heath Ledger's case was a great example of this. I don't really see why people go through the trouble of doing it in a more painful or time-consuming way. Death by sleep is easier, not that I encourage suicide, but I've researched a bit back in my High School years, and it seems that over-dosing is the least painful. Yeah, multiple drugs is the way to go if you want to overdose suicide. Th problem is that you're not guaranteed death, and may end up pretty painful depending how your body handles it. Carbon monoxide poisoning is the most peaceful suicide. You can just sit back, relax, and do whatever in your final moments. Want to listen to music? Go ahead. Want to see your favorite movie one last time? Sure, but you'll probably fall asleep halfway through. If you can find a place secluded enough that nobody tries to play Superman, and you have something that can emit enough carbon monoxide (I believe charcoal grills are commonly used and still widely available at an affordable price), then its probably the best way to off yourself. Most other ways are just flashy. Unless you want others to feel pity for you, there's no reason to leave behind a huge puddle of blood, or your brains splattered on the pavement. I realize sometimes people suicide in such ways because it's the impulsive type of suicide that there's no turning back from. Once you're off the building, or press that trigger, or jump in front of that train, there's no stopping yourself. Some people are too afraid to actually end it, so would stop themselves if it wasn't something that would be quick. Still, you can't even tell you're dying when you're ending it with carbon monoxide. The silent killer that you don't even know is there. If you pay attention to something else, it's easier to feel as if there's nothing going on at all. It helps that you'd actually feel relaxed and sleepy after a while, letting your mind drift off somewhere else. Seen so much of it on the news that I no longer care, but the fact that people still goes for stuff like that is saddening. |
