There are extractions regularly performed on PPF (Playpark Forums). Though they aren't quite as thorough as they used to be. Back in the day, I met up with a friend of mine who was interested in having my unpacker. MapleSEA had just changed encryptions to the newest one, and he had been doing extractions for at least a few months by then. Being less guarded back then, I handed it over to him and he didn't disappoint. His name was Platodino. What he would do is far different than how westerners view extractions. Instead of viewing it as an extraction, it's instead changed to a sneak peak. Also, not all of the data is shown as raw data (this item is this level and has these stats, etc.), but it's more of a "these things were added. Go check it out!" So extractions there are done to encourage users to play the game to figure out more how it works. It's the opposite in the west - we see the data and learn how to play the game based on the data. They value experience; we value data. There's nothing wrong with either approach, as both of them have limitations.
That's a really interesting distinction. It definitely fits with the instant gratification expectations most westerners have. Did you come across any other regions when doing this research? Specifically, I'm quite interested in what's going on in CMS hacker communities. Do they do extractions and openly develop programs for exploits or is it sort of a back-alley-whispers approach?
Also what is the Insonya community like? I've been there once to watch a video but it took forever to load and I didn't bother exploring any further.
