Westerners and extractions... - Sarah - 2010-02-16 It seems like a pretty decent portion of the maplestory community in North America and some of Europe are really interested in seeing what other versions of maplestory get, the point where extractions have become one of the most exciting events in our virtual lives, even more so than the actual content. But I was wondering, are there any Korean extractors? Does anyone visit any Korean fansites to see if they extract other versions content? What about the Japanese version? Or even SEA? Are any of these communities as obsessed with previewing information as we are? Do they do any of the calculations we see being done here? What are our international counterparts really interested in when it comes to maple? Westerners and extractions... - ThatWasMyKil - 2010-02-16 Yep there the same, Insonya and mazefind both cover extractions and so forth. CMS has hackers out the wazoo so im going to assume there hacking community has a good grasp on extractions and how things work. though interesting question - i don't think they get as excited as we do over it. that said i cant be sure. Oh and no i don't think they extract GMS data like we do to KMS. I was under the impression that mazefind was another American playing KMS. Which region is Insoya from? I thought it was SEA but... probably not. Westerners and extractions... - Link - 2010-02-16 There are only very, very few extractors in Japan and they only extract to blogs. Most JMS Database websites get their information based off of in-game findings. I think extracting is only really, really big in the Global community. I don't see many people in other versions worrying about what data is in what game and whatnot. Westerners and extractions... - Fiel - 2010-02-16 Now this is something I can answer having viewed many extractions from around the world. There are extractions regularly performed on PPF (Playpark Forums). Though they aren't quite as thorough as they used to be. Back in the day, I met up with a friend of mine who was interested in having my unpacker. MapleSEA had just changed encryptions to the newest one, and he had been doing extractions for at least a few months by then. Being less guarded back then, I handed it over to him and he didn't disappoint. His name was Platodino. What he would do is far different than how westerners view extractions. Instead of viewing it as an extraction, it's instead changed to a sneak peak. Also, not all of the data is shown as raw data (this item is this level and has these stats, etc.), but it's more of a "these things were added. Go check it out!" So extractions there are done to encourage users to play the game to figure out more how it works. It's the opposite in the west - we see the data and learn how to play the game based on the data. They value experience; we value data. There's nothing wrong with either approach, as both of them have limitations. It definitely fits with the instant gratification expectations most westerners have. Did you come across any other regions when doing this research? Specifically, I'm quite interested in what's going on in CMS hacker communities. Do they do extractions and openly develop programs for exploits or is it sort of a back-alley-whispers approach? Also what is the Insonya community like? I've been there once to watch a video but it took forever to load and I didn't bother exploring any further. It's the opposite in the west If Nexon was using foreign extractions as a basis for what they should be like, I completely understand why they went bananas about our/your alternative method of deriving game play from the data. Westerners and extractions... - Fiel - 2010-02-16 As an example of how Platodino did his extractions: http://forums.asiasoftsea.net/showthread.php?t=154886 Mind you, he did not know how to do any programming whatsoever, so everything you see was done by hand! What he had done there was very advanced for his time. However, version 0.65 changed a lot: http://forums.asiasoftsea.net/showthread.php?t=544471 This was because Platodino was to go into the military. He hasn't done an extraction since. Later on, some extractions are done by Conserver, but since the disappearance of Platodino, PPF really hasn't had a dedicated extractor since patch 0.65. To see an example of what Conserver does, click here. Since Platodino left, I changed my unpacker and now support MSEA extractions because of it. As far as "CMS hacker communities", let me say a few things about this: If you look in GMS hacker communities, you will see hardly any extractions. The data itself to hackers is not important. What is important is how that data can be altered to do what the hacker wants. Since learning what's new about each patch does not change what hacks are relevant, extractions don't matter. So, these extractions are only good for people who want to play the game, not for those that hack. Also, while CMS may be known for hacking, I'm sure not all of their communities are hacker communities. And even if there were, I doubt they'd be interested in the data. As far as Chinese extraction goes, there is a very public chinese unpacker at extractor.net.cn and they are interested in extractions from all versions of Maple. I heartily encourage you to check it out. This community is to CMS as Southperry is to GMS. EDIT: accidental useless post covered by fiel Westerners and extractions... - Pocoyo - 2010-02-18 I've actually been looking into MSEA's data, but did not post them, wzextract is sometimes not accurate and does not extract string's data, furthermore maststef has stopped working on it. I had to use hacking tools from hacking forums to dump the string's xml then use excel to compare ids with names, it is very frustrating to do it every patch. Fiel, i hope i can have a look at your extractor.. |
