The one thing a lot of people seem to complain about is using strafe as a main boss-attacking skill until 200 (with snipes every few seconds inbetween). Hurricane really appeals to people in general because it hits hard and fast but aesthetics aside BM and MM single target dps by the 140s-160s is pretty close with and without apples, with BM gaining a bit of ground on the way to 200.
If you're into appling and fighting zak/ht/anego/eventually PB and attacking quickly then bowmaster would probably be a better choice. If you enjoy training quickly and efficiently and seeing high damage numbers then marksman would probably be a better choice. The classes play quite differently in mid-late 4th job, but the results are still pretty similar so it's more a question of preferance of styles than of which one is truly 'better' at a given role. Player skill, level, and equipment has more of an effect than class differences in terms of usefulness here.
