Romney's geographic "landslide"

fact of the matter is that conservatives, whether it be American, British, French, or Dutch, poll better outside of cities. You can look at a map of the UK and see the exact same trend as in the US: Labour in the cities, Tory everywhere else. here's the 2015 UK election, for ex. (never mind SNP in Scotland though.)
that doesn't even consider population within that geography. Fairfax County, in Northern Virginia is half (and then some) the size of Wallace County in western Kansas. it has 1,000x more people than that county in Kansas. hell, the population of Fairfax County is nearly half of the population of all of Kansas. geographic landslide is Mondale vs. Reagan in 84 where Reagan swept popular and electoral vote, even taking a hefty number of urban centers.
the story of Trump's win is made clear by NYTimes's exit polls: the White people-- who were approaching electoral irrelevance-- showed up. the Dems' base, did not.
