It's not clear-cut. It's at the very least a legal gray area, though more on the edge of "yeah it's illegal". Meaning that Clinton likely isn't going to be found guilty, but if the tables were turned Trump's campaign would be thrown through the grinder.
Even everyone's favorite socialist, Bernie Sanders, as noted in the same article you referenced, affirms that this violates the law as it was intended by the drafters.
I mean you can't say she clearly broke the law then go on and say it's an entire gray area, thus the interpretation would be different and have to be fought for. I also don't like the argument of 'the other side', trust me both sides are being reemed, it's just different area's. Donald trump supporters are not going to watch CNN MSNBC or whatever, Hilary supporters aren't going to listen to fox news/alex jones/savage nation, people picked their camps and are both applying extremist values.

I don't consider this fair either;
It's under the assumption he didn't pay taxes because he doesn't want to release his tax returns, he did in fact pay taxes in 1995. We only got the tax summary, we don't know what those losses were on Schedule E, it could be his entire empire depreciated during the 90's. Filing for bankruptcy is also more of a financial tactic than an admittance of defeat.
There's is a lot more gut punches for trump, like that university scandal, seriously may as well been the business version of ITT
