Oh, I've been meaning to ask, what's the deal with the Power/Armor Charms/Talons?

They give you an Attack/Defense bonus based on your base Attack/Defense. You can hold 1 of each, and they stack, so you should have all 4 on you at any time once you can afford it for a nice bonus. It's nothing to write home about, but it helps.
