Would it be worth it to make HR Zinogre armor before I attempt Captain Goldbeard? Or should I man up and just farm him all day for his armor?

Goldbeard's armor is the first to give Sharpness +1, but not remotely the last.

I've done G Rank Wroggi, Jaggi and Volvidon, and both Wroggi and Jaggi have points in Sharpness+1 in their armor (not enough to completely make it, but still a decent amount). So far I don't see much reason in farming Goldbeard's armor, especially since you need to do 5 Extended G rank quests just to make it (Conqueror's Seals), and you get those by doing the earlier mentioned monsters.

Plus it seems that most G rank armor has decent skills, they really left all the good stuff for G Rank. I wouldn't bother with Jinouga. Just get decent defense and eat for Water Res and you should be fine.
