I haven't gotten to it just yet (gotta kill Lagiacrus first), but my friend and I beat it on multiplayer and it took a long time :\

Basically anything that would be a normal stagger while he is spinning will knock him over instead. Bows and Bowguns have the distinct advantage of being able to hit the mounds without ever tripping him, PLUS you can easily attack him while he's spinning. It makes your life a LOT easier. Pierce and Normal 2/3 to the back are probably the best in dealing with him.

I don't really use Bowgun much, so I can't really suggest too much more. Just learn when his movements mean what attacks. For example, if he starts to turn his back towards you he's probably going to attack with his tail, so get close to him. He's a monster where watching him is by far the most beneficial, because of how he attacks. A lot of monsters you can tell they're going to attack you by them looking at you but Duram is different, so the quicker you learn his actions the easier it will be.

Like I said earlier in this thread, I was able to do High Rank in less than 20 minutes solo, and it was mostly because I knew exactly how to deal with just about everything he did (thanks to P3rd experience). I knew exactly when I would be in danger based on his movements, I don't even think he hit me more than a couple of times that run either. His massive HP pool makes these advantages much more useful than other monsters.
