Not that it's ever low, he'll still take a while, but once you have your Shakas back it helps a lot too. The biggest issue is that he has a lot of HP and you have neither of them to help you out. Outside of that, use the element he's weak to (Fire as mentioned), and a great thing you can try to do is trip him while he's spinning. If you are able to do that your life gets a lot easier because his weak spot is the mounds on his back. There should be a small (then larger) safe zone right next to him when he's spinning so you can do damage and potentially knock him over.
Hmm, any tips specifically on beating him for bowgun users? Is it still possible to trip him with said weapons?
I haven't gotten to it just yet (gotta kill Lagiacrus first), but my friend and I beat it on multiplayer and it took a long time :\
