I like that they are making more use of the Z axis (technically Y, but whatever), but I don't like how a lot of the new showcase stuff is about just rope climbing or wall scaling to avoid. That's just going to throw off the pace of the game in my opinion. I feel like platforming like this should be left to games like God of War and Darksiders. But I suppose we'll see eventually.
Also, still laughing at the people on GameFAQs that think that the new snake monster is Raviente. I feel bad for anyone who wants him, he's such a boring fight...and he takes an hour or more. It's such a colossal waste of time.
Yeah there's two new weapons: The Charge Axe...which I HOPE TO HELL is not a 1H Switch Axe, and the Bug Staff or whatever they're calling it. The second one you can control a bug with a staff weapon that also has some decent melee combos (seen a little in the video), I'm looking forward to that one. Charge Axe doesn't really interest me at the moment, but I also never found Switch Axe to be all that enjoyable of a weapon.
I also need to ask the question...what was the point of the reboot of the series with Tri? The entire excuse behind the reboot from both Capcom and players for why they rebooted the series was to "Get rid of redundant monsters and the reskins," yet...they went right back and added all of them again. It makes absolutely no sense to me. Rathalos and Rathian are back to three versions, many other monsters have two, WAY MORE than there used to be, and they brought back some of the dumber monsters like Gypceros and Plesioth. Why exactly did they reboot the series now? I feel like Tri was an even bigger waste of time than I had originally thought, considering the massive lack of content in it compared to Freedom Unite. They could have easily updated the engine and mechanics like they did without that full reboot that ended up pointless a few years later.
I still think that reboot or not, leaving out four weapon types was inexcusable for Tri, which is part of the reason I didn't play it anywhere near as much as I did other MH games. Duals and Bow are my two favorite weapon types, with Hammer at a close third. Was an utter disappointment to see both of them removed for no reason.
Tri came off as more as a 'Test Game' than an actual game. The amount of content is piss-poor, yeah, but it looks like they wanted to see how people would react to the new mechanics and such.
Also, I'm calling the Charge Axe the Sh'itSlapper 'cause lookit that thing.
