About keyboard layout, It's pretty easy to have a decent keyboard layout if you're not using ALT to jump. I honestly don't know how people can play like that. All of my skills are done with my left hand, including loot/jump/potting. My right hand is ONLY for moving (I play on a laptop so End, PG down, PG up, Delete, etc are not close to my right hand anyway).
And.. they're "sort of" similar to a shadower I guess.. They're alot slower in attacks and movement though. Brawlers are really their own class though.

I'm not a Brawler, but on all my characters I have ALT set to jump and my left hand rests over ASDF, so I have access to about 15 keys, plus ~12345. My thumb is basically held under my other fingers. My hand tends to close, not open, so I'm perfectly comfortable with my thumb resting in a semi-unnatural position. Also, the spacebar is just way too huge for me to want to use that as my jump button. Especially since I'd be constantly blasting it from one end.

This is approximately what my keyboard looks like, except the section with ENTER and backslash, and Alt Gr, and the fact that I popped out all the keys and rearranged them when I was learning Dvorak. My right hand has access to Ctrl, Shift, End, and Pg Down very easily for potting.
I think you meant, as long as you're not using a modified default layout, because my layout works perfectly fine.
