Intellectually I thought his speech was pretty brilliant, but I had to listen to it again to really understand it (kind of zoned out with all the preacher-speak, and he sounded legitimately confused when he revealed the twist, so maybe he pulled that off a little too well). His point is that in the 1950s/60s, white preachers used to make the same arguments against racial integration as what he hears from opponents of gay rights in the present day. Hearing them now, the preacher's words sound ridiculous in the context of racial integration/segregation, and will sound ridiculous in the context of gay rights in the future.
