It's not really a scam considering they state that the chairs have different expiration dates... but I do have to admit it is pricey and kinda dumb to use 3k nx to buy a 30 day chair.

How's it any different from buying a mushroom shop with an expiration date? Or NX clothes with expiration dates? or pets that expire?

before nx inflated balls, buying a mushroom shop was profitable for me, a small seller, people that merch high-priced items can outweight the loss of NX. non-perma clothes are stupid, hence why i don't buy them, EVER, except the violins for the charm, and i did that with maplepoints.

How's that different from those Gachapon mounts? Those range from having expiration dates to being permanent. From memory, it costs more than the chair tickets.

I'm personally happy with my relaxer. If I'm training I don't need a chair, and if I'm afking a lengthy time, I might as well set up shop in FM. I might splurge on a maple chair though, those are only going for like 7 mill in Windia.

gachapon mounts can still provide a service, you have nooo idea how me, as a warrior, appreciate the 190 speed my dragon gives, or the ability to fly, saving time climbing ropes and such. contrary to chairs, which are simply to show off, if a chair expires... then... lol. a mount may at least give some benefits (then again, mount gacha is also plagued with crappy mounts)

last thing, i always knew the chairs had time limit, if anyone thought otherwise. and i agree that if you bought a gacha without reading the notice, you didn't think much.

If they were going to bring out chairs that expire they should have made it a 90 day minimum. Thirty days is just way too short.

As a chair collector myself, it kinda saddened me that some of the chairs I have lost so much value, especially when I spent a ton on some. Those Tiger Skin Chair people must be hurtin'.

I really don't get people with their "people with tiger skin chairs got nexonwed" is just like if you buy a 3D T.V. right now, or a HD a few years ago or a color T.V. on the '50s, it has been over a year since that event (right?) they had enough time to flaunt their 500 $ chairs.

Chairs in MapleStory serve the same function as jewelry, paintings, statuary, etc, in the real world.
They have some decorative value, but mostly serve the social function of showing off one's wealth, either in money (I could afford to buy this utterly useless item) or time (I could afford to participate in the pointless event that awarded this). This function is especially apparent since the change that made it possible to see all of another character's chairs.

That would be true if nexon had a one-time release deal where they would discontinue chairs
after a certain period.

The abyssal dragon chair used to be one of the rarest/most wanted chairs in the game and someone was
trying to sell one for weeks at $150. It finally sold for $75. *she even made a craigslist ad*

A few weeks later, nexon re-released the dragon chairs in gach and their prices quickly deflated.

You can see the same for the tiger skin chair where it used to be a symbol of someone who got 500
gachapon stamps during the event. It had a high status because who else would spend that much
nx for a chair let alone gachapon during the event?

Now nexon re-releases the tiger skin and this time, its tradable. =/

In a game like this, I wouldn't compare maplestory chairs to having a similar role of jewelry/paintings.

To me MTS does not fall under trading NX for Mesos. People may use it that way but you still trade NX for an item same as the cash shop.

Some people's aim in Maple is to becoming level 200.

Some want to have a certain stat % on their equips.

Some want to be strong enough to beat a boss in a certain time limit.

Some want to have the best looking NX.

Some want chairs.

Everyone in Maple wants different things. Calling them stupid is in itself, stupid. Nexon aren't scamming people. The event clearly stated that not all the chairs are permanent. Sheesh.
