Trade hack is back? Also.. I got hacked.

There are programs of where they will reverse your IP address to match with all the emails registered or associated with it.

That's the most bizarre and unlikely thing I've heard in weeks.

They do have an option to change mail on the Nexon site.

It would require a centralized database from every potential email provider of every IP address that's ever used every email account.
Even if each individual email provider likely does keep that information for legal reasons for about a year it's exceedingly unlikely any one of them, let alone all of them, would let others access it or pool it together somewhere.

Yeah. I tried it on two of the accounts I'm locked out of because they have email addresses at domains that no longer exist.

There's a form you can fill out and fax in still. Somewhere.

I'm aware of that, but I'm still very skeptical considering some of that information was previously hacked accounts. I honestly think, during echo's discovery of the java script error on the original website, accumulated all this information, and sold them off as fresh meat. I recognized some of them because they were of my friends who were mutilated in like 09

If they have your ID your probably in your most vulnerable position. They just need your email, which they can trick you into adding them in some form of device, and getting your IP.

How nonsensical considering that, for new accounts, your email address is your ID. Hell, that's the case with old accounts too.

Well if your bold enough to attempt to push forward a Nexon database leak, you better have some proof or at least something supporting such an event instead of saying "Oh it happened in the past and not everybody got affected". Almost all accounts from what I've seen so far have had MS Adventures linked to their Main accnt. Sure there were others that didn't but that could be from keylogged or anything really. What even hints at a Nexon database leak besides you suggesting it? I would think there would be a lot more talk then what's presently here if there was a Nexon database leak.

You have to verify the change using your old email address, hence why my brother is locked out of an account he can still log into on the site.

He typed in the wrong password too many times in Gamelauncher, and now he's required to verify his account before he can do anything.

Same scenario; the only people who know where an IP address have been are the ISP itself, the destination and the origin.
Tracking where one has been would require access to one of those three, and to know everywhere someone has been you'd either have to have access to every log from every site on the internet, access to the ISP, access to the machine that actually did the traveling, or have a man in the middle router set up to capture everything between the person and their ISP.

You mean like your assumption? Sorry I don't have my maplestory timeline out right now but it was between 08-09 as that's when I took my break for about a year.

Now it is, it wasn't before, or are you new to maplestory? In fact I believe your email wasn't even available unless you went through pay by cash at one point. Evidently you don't know about the most recent exploits, which is why you're trying to make an excuse for someones ignorance. That's fine and dandy, but the latest "exploit" was revolved around a hacker getting your IP address through MSN on a bowling invitation, then ask for a password reset through the MSN reset form. They evolved and adapted it as time went on to affect google and AIM. Never cracked yahoo by my knowledge.

You'd think such a maplestory "encyclopedia" would know how to get their email changed within a few weeks, like, hey guess what, I did. Oh and the above method? Yeah I was a victim of, however I was able to get his Ip address and found out his address and threatend him with a FBI report.

Sorry Eos, I can't give you an answer on his method, so you prying at me about it, doesn't help either of us. He was able to pull up an email address associated with my maplestory account, and other variations with my IP. And the time I originally got hacked, was because they grabbed my IP through msn and were able to tree off to my other emails, such as gmail.

As to the hacking situation, it has been common for the last few weeks.
Strangely enough, having one of your accounts hacked does not mean the others will be.

I was hacked on one of my mules, which had no traceable email or password, and only a few items were taken (Roughly 20b). The person then proceeded to "PLAY" the account, for reasons unknown. They left 225k NX on it, did not delete any characters, and did not drop it's reverse equips or try to explode them. I of course, had to be sure, did not touch the account for a week. I came back finding 11k NX had been used and it's equips had been switched (Not dropped or traded).

I can safely say it is just people randomly phishing for accounts. I later saw 1 of the VIP kataras sold for 1.5b (Worth maybe 13b) in a store, which also had another copy of a VIP weapon on the account.

This is not the work of someone who knows what they're doing.
This is the work of someone guessing information.

Now, as for the trade hack.

What if the hackers went around and checked the FB accounts of everyone who "liked" maplestory or mPlestory adventures, and got the email they used to sign up for Facebook. If this email is the same one they used to sign up for a nexon account, then they basically have your id, since you can log in through email now.
So, with relatively no work at all, ANYONE could get a hold of your email+your id, if you used the same one to set up Facebook, and have no privacy settings on your FB account.

So now I really want to change my password, but can't because my email is over 5 years old and probably no longer exists. Would I be screwed if they forced a compulsory password change?

I as well as many others who use facebook and have had our MS accounts hacked know not to use the same email, password, etc. We didn't even play the FB game.

I'm pretty sure it's random guess and check, because if the person did have access to my accounts... they would have taken the 3 tril instead of the 20b.
