Trade hack is back? Also.. I got hacked.

Viaje Wrote:Which is entirely irrelevant to the situation at hand as, clearly, no one has had any problems getting back into their own accounts.

That means no passwords were changed!

Also, at least one instance in the resent hackings involve an email address that no one, not even the 'owner', could access.

It's not compulsory; it's suggested.
All you have to do is click a big 'x'.

There's a reason why I quoted him and not stated this the first time I posted.

This means I was clarifying random compulsary password changes are useless.

Also that a company shouldn't force you to do it and it should be a standard thing to begin with.

It has to be another method. FB linked->Main Accnt and possibly that sleepywood database leak coupled with idiots who got keylogged are prob making it sound a lot worse then what it is. If Nexon's database was leaked, everybody would be affected at once not a select group of individuals with similarities between others affected.
You must be new to Maplestory.

There was a database breach years ago, but that didn't mean everyone was affected.
In fact, oddly enough, my other brother lost one of his accounts in that breach. One.

Exactly!

I should have added earlier that my other brother had his Marauder stripped years ago after the last big breach.
All they've done is given him some Maple Points as "pre-compensation" and tickets like yours.

Except, if there was a breach, it sure as hell would do something.
If Nexon noticed the breach and notified its users, people might be able to resecure their accounts before the passwords and information that was already in the wild could be used.

Your response was completely irrelevant to the comment to which you were replying.
He was suggesting a password change due to a specific incident.

Depending on that event, my accnt remained unaffected. But who knows I stopped playing for 2-3 years at that point. Prove to me there's a Nexon database leak without having a great number of people having MS Adventures linked to their Main Accnt. Good luck to you if you can pull this off, let alone other variables interfering with such a discovery.

Also, I congratulate you on double posting.

Was there any proof besides rumors that was a legitimate data breach? I know 12 people who claimed they caused it, including the guy who crashed the msea server for like a week.

The people with the data might just be getting around to those account names after all this time, if they have your account name then your account is as good as stripped.

And you can decline the request.
So, if you use GameLauncher exclusively, or tell the website "no, thanks" when it asks to change, you can use the same password indefinitely.
I log in exclusively through game launcher, so I guess that's the reason.

How depressing, I didn't even get the Maple points, and my account was cleaned out of NX when they couldn't take any of my stuff.
It's not having what you want - It's wanting what you've got.

My account was unaffected as well, as were many others. That's my point.

I don't have to prove anything other than the fact that a previous database breach didn't result in everyone getting hacked, nor did it result in everyone affected getting hacked in a small amount of time. I've already done that, thus refuting your statements.

Not sure why you'd congratulate me on double posting. It's not that difficult.

Well, there's the fact that massive lists of usernames and passwords were posted in certain forums.

Mind explaining how that makes sense instead of pretending it does?

I have no idea how many tickets he sent in, so maybe that helped. Then again, dealing with things on a case by case basis also means no standard compensation.

Oddly enough, he's not nearly as persistent about regaining access to the account he locked himself out of.

I'm aware of that, but I'm still very skeptical considering some of that information was previously hacked accounts. I honestly think, during echo's discovery of the java script error on the original website, accumulated all this information, and sold them off as fresh meat. I recognized some of them because they were of my friends who were mutilated in like 09

If they have your ID your probably in your most vulnerable position. They just need your email, which they can trick you into adding them in some form of device, and getting your IP.

Well if your bold enough to attempt to push forward a Nexon database leak, you better have some proof or at least something supporting such an event instead of saying "Oh it happened in the past and not everybody got affected". Almost all accounts from what I've seen so far have had MS Adventures linked to their Main accnt. Sure there were others that didn't but that could be from keylogged or anything really. What even hints at a Nexon database leak besides you suggesting it? I would think there would be a lot more talk then what's presently here if there was a Nexon database leak.

Some people dont even need to trick you..I dont know how they do it but if they have your Used ID they can get a password reset sent to them, they dont even need your email.

In the past it was that they sent a packet, where it would keep a pop up coming up saying the verification was sent, but allowed you to change the e-mail of where the verification was sent. I'm not sure about the new website now.

It could be as simple as, they check the FB account of everyone who "likes" maplestory and finds your email address that way.

People on my BL have been getting hacked recently. Nexon should just make it mandatory to change your password every 3 months, kind of like how South Perry does it. When you don't change your pass it locks your account not letting you do anything. I will admit it's quite annoying but most people don't change their password every 3 months like Nexon tells them to. I'm not saying that people wouldn't have gotten hacked if they changed their password every 3 months but it would help against database leaks.

As in that I probably gave out my e-mail/pic/pass/ID?

There are programs of where they will reverse your IP address to match with all the emails registered or associated with it. Now Ip address' are typically static so they have to go through quite a bit of email's, where they find facebook pages, myspace pages to narrow it down. Then things like google/msn prefer you use the IP address to prove your identity, or at least help. Msn will automatically reset the password if you have the first/last name and Ip address, well they did until they updated their security like I think in November? Around there.

I had some people demonstrate it to me, so that's basically all I can explain

So now I really want to change my password, but can't because my email is over 5 years old and probably no longer exists. Would I be screwed if they forced a compulsory password change?

They do have an option to change mail on the Nexon site.
