What we're some of your mistakes with MapleStory when you first joined?
#81
Messed up stats (added LUK/INT) Tried to max every single skill. Avoided the heck out of magicians because I thought they were the ones summoning monsters in Henesys.

2-3 years later, I messed up twice on the 3rd job advancement costing me 2 dark crystals... and I still play this guy.

Other than the standard issue Fusion Mace wearing level 29 magician...

Had no idea what scrolls were. Asked MapleTip whether the Brown Doros Robe (+2Male) with 5 DEX that I had just bought off a stranger in Ellinia for 300k was hacked or not. Turns out it wasn't, and I was genuinely relieved I wasn't carrying "hot property" that could get me banned. Alot of the posters were like "wtp why was it scrolled for DEX", I had no idea why they were so confused. Stats are stats and more stats are good right? I wore my DEX scrolled Doros Robe with pride, labouring under the delusion it gave me an edge above other magicians.

Also gave some terrible Perion FM advice. said it was OK for my friend to sell Tobis for 500k a set when their market value was more like 2m, and also lost him another 4m when I undershot the value of a 3att 4slot WG before dark scrolls existed. QQ

Joining lmao! Just kidding but really thinking all str on a mage would make me stronger Smile Also putting everything into health so I wouldn't die. I miss the good ol' days.

-Reminisces the good 'ol days-

Oh! Back when I started MS, I added DEX to my nib mage! Of course, thanks to that mistake, I ended up restarting my mage character (now my F/P AM).

Back in beta before thieves were released and bowman were essentially the only range class, other than mages, which I hated, I added nothing but strength, thinking that the more strength I'd have, the harder he'd pull back the bow. LOL

I dropped all my scrolls..

Why NPC scrolls (1 meso) when I can NPC potions for more money? or actually use potions?

Oh a serious post. Not that my other post WASN'T serious but...

My first character was a warrior because they are my favourite job type in almost all games. I equally distributed my stats and managed to make it up to 3x. This was from BETA to about when Ludi came out (when I came to Khaini... where I used my brother's warrior was about as awful). I spent hours training at masked fish, thinking it was godly exp, and especially good because they'd get stuck on the bridge by the aquarium and make them farmable.

Then my friend (in-game husband) made a mage to play with me. By level 13 he was actually stronger than me so I abandoned that shitty warrior and created Bam. As someone with more experience, my friend listened to what I told him. And thinking I knew it all, I lead us both astray. "You need to add str to get through maple island" not entirely untrue, but a big mistake for later. Until only a few months ago I had 15 str. And some DEX. Then in creating our Magician builds, I told him "Magic Claw isn't that good! Use bolt! And max it first! And don't bother with Magic Guard, it's worthless!" This actually worked really well for us until we hit 50 and went for our thrones and were being 1hko'd by electrophants. We cursed Nexon for making them do so much damage. HOW IS ANY MAGE SUPPOSED TO SURVIVE. Then I traveled to Nath and was hit by a vacced yeti. Which killed me. I knew something wasn't right so I went in search of answers.

I had to buy us both SP resets since it was my mistake. We put about 5 points each into Magic Guard and then leveled and distributed second job points into the rest. Then later we had to put third job skill points into second job skills to make up for that. It's amazing either of us continued on as long as we did.

Also, we had no idea what places we were supposed to be training so we stubbornly stayed at places we felt good being for many levels. My first place was Crocos, where I stayed from 53 - 7x. He stayed at the last Target Dummy map from like 4x to 9x. I eventually found my way to Brexton where I stayed from 8x to 13x.

Then I learned how to play.

I made a Warrior, and added into each stat. I only made it to like lvl 14 though.

I thought that having higher def would prevent me from dieing so i added Magic Armor..
Ended up with spending some money to buy SP resets later on since i left my magic guard at 18.

Hahaha, I added HP and STR+DEX to my first ever character... that actually made it up to lv 59. She had 13 str and 9 dex, I put her right with the recent free AP resets.
I was stuck on Maple Island for days because I didn't know about quests.
It took me 3 months to get to level 30.

Not mistakes, I remember how higher level people used to give noobies stuff, I remember someone gave me and my friend equips and pots. Lots of them.
I remember when a whole bunch of my friends used to play, and we would chat and party, then talk about it when we hang out in real life.

Was my first mmorpg, so of course I treated it as any other rpg, and tried to keep balanced stats. Didn't want my int falling behind on my thief or anything...

I guess the biggest mistake of the older generation is messed up stats. lol

My first character was a future cleric and I raised str, dex, int, and luk equally - just fresh off a console RPG where I did the same thing but with better results then ;P

Did not put points in slash blast on my first warrior because I saw it took away from HP and thought it was useless.

Bought a weighted earrings for 50k because I NEEDED it for that quest (back when they did not drop that much)

Did not know how to trade and annoyed the random that traded me for some reason :v

Used to use the chair to recover HP/MP when it gets low - did not have mesos to buy potions then.

Oh lordy, where do I begin?

Beta
- Added str as a mage to finish levels 1-8 faster. Ended up having to advance to 1st job at level 12. c_c
- Added dex as a mage to wear the green bamboo helmet.
- Maxed out Energy Bolt because it had higher single hit damage.
- lol'd @ Magic Guard
After that, I never wanted to play a mage again.

Windia
- Started in a new server as an unfunded low-dex sin. This was 2006.
- Spent mesos on stars before gloves or claws.
- NPC'd zombie teeth thinking they were just another etc drop.
- Did the GFA 60% quests after level 90...

  • run into the block golem in ludi pq
  • cap iron-arrow at 15, reasoning att% / mp consumption
  • thought critical = double the dmg -> max ArrowBlow and FA
  • my first unfunded rogue, never use double stab and reach lv30, actually still using basic attack till dagger mastery and SB reach decent level... reasoning mp pot were so expensive
  • killed a wild boar and the weight erring dropped into the trap f4

Didn't have enough STR to job advance at level 10.

Deleted that dude the next day and made another warrior. I saved all my SP until level 23 or so and then realized I messed up his HP growth by not getting the HP skill as soon as possible. Still have that guy, he's my Paladin.
