Freaking Out and Need Answers

Technolink Wrote:Hypothetically, if there was such a hack to redo store prices, why would he make it 3M instead of 30 mesos?
Hacker with a guilty conscience?Biggrin

Why wouldn't you take a picture if you thought you had been hacked?

"Oh no I’ve just been hacked. But I’ll take no pictures for evidence because that would just be stupid."

seems to me the first response would be to feel really really depressed and guilty and confused and bewildered and feeling like quitting ...
Quote:post ss
did u take a screen shot of the item being sold at 3m? no screen shot = lie
any moron would take a screen shot if something like this happened
... rather than "all my legit peers are going to disbelieve me and reject what i'm sure of, so i'd better screenshot everything."

we don't have to know all the answers
if it's a hack, it'll happen again

Quote:its has to have been a hack, cause i double check my stores before i open them, and all my other items that were higher up in price were priced right.

If it was a hack, they would have gone after the ele wands or the 15att SCGs, not your bow. And they would have taken it for less than 3m.

And about the merchants: not all of them know equip prices.

Without proof, it might as well not have happened. The problem is that he posted a thread about it to try to inform us, and to achieve that goal, some of us need evidence to be motivated to take any action about this. Until he can prove that this hack thing happened, and there are much more likely possibilities other than hacking, it really didn't happen. He tried to inform us, and half-assed information isn't going to do any good. If, as you say, "we don't have to know all the answers", why do these threads exist?

Most people would probably have taken screenshot after screenshot, and maybe even a video of moving background people to prove that there were no edits, immediately after I noticed something wrong, instead of closing the store.
Sn1perJohnE Wrote:who the hell would think "oh boy, ive been scammed/hacked, i must take a screenshot so that the non believers of basil market (read southperry...) will belive that harm has befelled me"
Why are you posting, anyway? Are you actually trying to inform us?

Sn1perJohnE Wrote:really, if you think i was worried about taking a ss, you shouldnt even post here. i was more worried about stopping the guy before he went and tried selling it in the fm, where i would most likely never get it back.
You're not getting this bow back. Again, why are you posting here?
Sn1perJohnE Wrote:the store was open, i had 5 people go thru the shop before i went afk, and more than one of them i knew were merchants, if i had set the shop up with the bow for 3 mil they would have easily seen that it was a hot item and would have bought it seconds after i made the shop.
Maybe those "merchants" didn't notice your low price.

even if he had screenshots, some of us wouldn't do anything because screenshots don't prove what we wanted to know... well really imagine if you had a screenshot of a bow selling for 3m. what difference does that make? i don't think there is any dispute that someone really bought his bow out of his shop for 3m.

whether he has screenies or not, the people posting in this thread would have done exactly the same thing: "tell him it's his fault and it's not a hack."

or, alternatively: "see? your screenshot proves it. it's your fault."

If there were screenshots, the apparent goal of this thread would have been fulfilled: to inform and warn the community. If the thread starter wanted pity, he/she could have posted in Pits of Hell. Since this is in general, this had better be an informative thread.

But the question most of us have: if he's not posting here for sympathy, and it is doubtful that anyone would own up to having hacked his bow or bought it cheap off of him on here, why exactly is he posting here?

If as he said he priced it at 299,999,999, then he could just take a screenie of the shop showing it sold for that price, but with him holding <5mil (or w/e) in his inventory, or of the transaction log showing 2,999,999 and the shop showing 299,999,999.

Of course, if the hack involves actually changing the display price of items in other peoples' store there's no real way to "prove" that it's happening, because the price would have dropped. And all that would work is showing a pre-sale (with item at full price) and a post-sale (with item's price dropped), which is unlikely since people don't screenshot everything they put up in the shop >_>

Bro, if you wanted sympathy when attempting to cover up your own mistakes, you should've tried a friendlier forum such as Basilmarket.

Eh, this happened to me once, except it wasn't mysterious. Right when PAC's came out (PURPLE, not PINK...hehe) I got 1 really nice one (+9matk). (Note this is the only time I've really ever gach'd!)

My intention was to put it up in my store for 600m with the words "OFFER". My intention failed. I ended up selling it for 600k. =) I had accidentally typed "600000" instead of "600000000".

We all make mistakes... Sorry to hear about your loss, dude, but I don't think this is a hack. If it were, they would have cleared out your entire store (assuming you had other things of value) for MUCH less than 3m. Human error = the most likely culprit!

If it was a hack why arent people going around buying out all the godly items as we speak?

Deviant is right; if such a hack did exist I'm pretty sure you're bow wouldn't be the only item the hacker would be after.

The misprice is really not a big shock, we as humans tend to punch in numbers in sets of 3s, especially since large numbers rqeuire either a comma or a space every 3 digits.

Sorry for your loss, but you were just reallly sleepy and not thinking straight =/.

I remember seeing your bow. IIRC it was in fm13 or 14. But I know the price was set to 2.9M because I almost bought it Biggrin

You probably just misread your price.

LoL.

Now we know it's not hacks for sure.

It still cannot sure because there are no screenshots. Anything is possible, but it's just much more likely that the guy mispriced the item.

One way to tell is for both the thread starter and the almost-buyer to PM a single person about a few facts they can remember about the store. For example, what type of store was the guy using? What floor on the FM room? More to the left, or the right? Of course, none of this should actually be posted on the thread.
