The Official Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate Topic
Currently in 8-star High Rank quests in offline mode and me and my buddy are on 7-star High Rank quests in online co-op. Things are definitely starting to get a little tougher. The aforementioned Pink Rathian was a pain in the ass, hell, I even had a bit of trouble with Baleful Gigginox (who I have dubbed "Gigawatt Gigginox"). Also finally got to fight this game's title monster, Brachydios. First time I failed cause I wasn't really ready for how aggressive he gets when enraged, but upon my second try I succeeded and have been able to beat him with no problems ever since. Unfortunately one of my current quests is the Jhen Mohran one and I cannot be more reluctant to do it. I remember fighting him in Tri online, and it took me and my friend about 3 days to finally get to a point where we could beat him. It was definitely a spike in difficulty for us, so I'm not looking forward to that.

Starting to work on crafting varying weapons of different elements, so I made the Rathian/Rathalos FIRE Dual Sword set. Luckily I already had 1 of each of their Plates, so the first upgrade was OK, but now the second upgrade requires a Rathian Ruby and Rathalos Ruby. Hunted a number of Rathalos so far, no Rubies, however, now that I'm no longer after his Plates, he seems to be dropping them like candy, the bastard.

Dat Flaming Bite. Ow. The range on that thing is insane.

you are right, dumbassboros was one of those monster that surprising me made me mad, because of the range of his ram,the constant moving of him and his hammer tail.

Vontos Wrote:well, the XL has a bigger screen( and im not sure if the Circle Pad Pro for the XL has been released in NA yet) other than you might have issues reading the text with the regular 3DS.

Oh snap. I remember having issues reading the text for Monster Hunter Tri and that was... not fun. *_* Might just have to go with the XL for that, lmao. Thank you~

Protip: That doesn't help it. It's still atrocious.

There's no Circle Pad Pro for the XL outside of Japan. If you won't/can't import one (I don't even know if it works on an NA/EU 3DS XL), I would not get an XL for MH3U.

If Cha-Cha and Kayamba work like the Felyne Fighter Cats do in P3rd, you shouldn't have a problem with Jhen. In P3rd, the Fighter Cats will shoot bombs and use the ballista. It's a huge help. Also, he's weakest to Ice and Dragon so if you're really worried, bring one of those weapons and give the Shakas those attack types.

How bad is it to play without a Circle Pad Pro? It'd be awful to move the camera with the D-pad on the 3DS - but then again 'awful' was how I felt about the camera controls on the PSP, and I got used to that eventually.

So uh....Capcom is assholes. There's no High Rank JUST Gigginox quest. It's either three Gigginox, or Gigginox and some random ass monster, and the end result is that I cannot upgrade the only bow I like without doing them...but they take an excessive amount of time because the thing is mid LR...this is awful.

It's much worse, because the DPad and Analog are reversed compared to the PSP.

On the PSP, you can use your Index Finger to control the camera perfectly fine, because you don't really need accuracy, you just need to be able to hit a direction. Here, the analog to move is where your Index Finger would have been. As a result, you cannot properly control your character if you don't use your thumb, and if you use your thumb you just simply cannot reach the DPad to control the camera. It's a completely screwed up scenario due to the reversed pads. If you try to use the touch screen to control the camera, then you sacrifice the ability to really control your character outside of movement, which means you cannot control the camera while attacking, or in the case of weapons like Bow, while charging your weapon or doing things that take time. I suppose you COULD use your index finger there but it's very uncomfortable considering the distance your finger has to go in towards the middle of the device to control the camera.

To put it simply...I had problems with Azurlos when I was playtesting the 3DS version....a monster that normally never hits me at all was able to kill me because I had extremely poor control over the camera or my character. I never had full control over both but I always do on the Wii U version.

I'd like to add ye if possible. So far, I met no one here on the game.

Hey, I got a question here. Does this game encourage you to use more than one weapon type, rather than just one? I primarily use a sword and shield.

Yes it does, some weapons are made to deal quick elemental damage/status effect like the sword and shield or dualies, others are used to smack the hell out of things like the great sword, hammer or hunting horn, and you might have a easier time dealing ranged damage to a monster with bows,or blow guns. You have lots of options, use the weapon that you like the most.

What'd be a good weapon set for me? I keep my sword/shield as my primary weapon, but I could use a damage dealer and like a backup.

hammers would be good as far as damage dealer,as for backup it depends on your taste.

It's gonna be between dual blade or long sword. I liked using the long sword in the demo.
