but I wonder if they had gotten more positive feedback that they would have. If everyone had accepted the change they may have just left him dead, at least for a while.

The creator confirmed that it was the plan to bring him back regardless, and that it was to "prove a point" that people shouldn't be taken for granted because they could go just like that.

Which likely isn't the case at all, and it was all for ratings.

It's rather ironic that their attempts to take bold steps (why Family Guy was initially so popular since it was being edgy at the time and all that) was all really a publicity stunt for ratings and not sticking with a daring change to the show. I'm more annoyed they didn't make people wait longer before bringing Brian back to make his serious and dramatic death seem more genuine. Now it seems like another one of their throwaway gags.

Next time Seth, give us a real reason to care for Family Guy rather than killing off your author avatar for shock value and attention, and bringing him back in a few weeks. Want to actually have the holiday lesson stick? Kill someone we care about and keep them dead.
